Hey,
I'm currently on AOL and want to switch over to something else. My Dad is pretty stubborn on this. Half of me thinks he just cba doing anything about it and seeing as he pays for my internet connection I can't just switch without letting him know
We pay £20 a month, for unlimited downloads and for 4MB download speed and 360kbs upload speed although at times it can be a lot less. Music and torrent downloads are incredibly slow (30kbs tops). Now I've done a lot of tweaking with torrent and music downloads and have found no evidence of AOL throttling torrent downloads so that has lead me to try and change ISP.
I'll use my internet connection for gaming and my ping is around 50 on UK servers (not great, but certainly not bad) and also for downloading some music, movies, etc. Top download speed is around 400kbs for downloading things off websites....anyways.
What ISP would you recommend? Combining good value for money for decent speeds (I'm not looking for lightning fast, just an improvement). Now my Dad insists that we have renewed our contract with AOL and that there's no way of getting out for at least 18 months? Can any AOL users shed some light on this? He also argues that changing ISP wouldn't make much of a difference as apparently the wiring in the house isn't great would contribute to slow downloads? The internet connection cuts out rarely at night after it's been on for whole day, possibly modem overheating? Or could AOL be cutting it out just cos they're mean
So yeah - looking for decent speed ISP, good value for money and some answers to some of the things my Dad claims are reasons we can't change ISP.
Any help much appreciated
EDIT: Thought I'd add this in. This is at 11pm, it's normally slower.
