Looking for some help here setting a friends network up. Had a hard morning trying to sort it out including two phonecalls to some foreigner which were Useless.
Done two today, first one went as it's s'posed to an took minutes but that was cable.
Round the next house they have ADSL AOL Netgear, I was Gutted when i saw it but what can you say. SO untold problems getting the laptop to recognise the wireless, In the end i rang AOL & he didn't even understand the phone number i gave him, we got nowhere & the call ended with me getting nothing. 2nd call went better we me actually getting the laptop hooked up & running fine on the Netgear. All settings saved etc.
Then i moved on to the daughters laptop & that ******* thing was the same. So i rebooted the Netgear & guess what. Yep it ****** the wireless connection on the 1st laptop  It says it's connected but it's not. Rebooted a few times tried a few things but had to give up in the end & get back to my dog.
I've told them i am going back there in the morning to have another go.
So i need some help here, Any ideas, website links or just pointing out the obvious to me.
I'm not up on wireless being a gamer i have stuck with cable so feel free to treat me like a child :)

Thanks for reading & any help offered :)

Thinking about it & trying to narrow it down & giving it a Bump I reckon it's down to previous settings saved on the laptop.
How do i access/delete the previous settings.

Got this sorted myself this morning. Got both kids laptops running well wireless in there own rooms. Am pretty chuffed with myself. I done loads of research last night on the web & then just got my head down & sorted it today.
I am a Hero in that House

Thanks for all your Help :D

Hey malc, how you get this sorted?

Was round at my aunts yesterday trying to get her laptop to work on this using the software config disc that comes from AOL and it kept failing Test 3 - ADSL Line when you set up the router. Is this where you where having problems?

Can you get the laptop online using AOL via a wired ethernet connection?

I don't use AOL myself but that sounds like an ADSL line sync issue suggesting it's not the wireless bit that's the problem it's getting broadband on the fixed telephone line that's the issue.

Rgds

Nah it didnt work. Seem to need Laptop wired upto the router via ethernet to set it up aswell. () So the set up guide shows.

Was thinking about the telephone line myself as my Aunt said that it only got switched back to BT yesterday / they said it would be done yesterday. They had been using some one else, im not sure who though.
