AOL's migration to CPW servers: anyone else had a speed drop?

Further to a recent thread I started here, I have not yet switched over to Be from AOL as at present, my exchange has not been activated ( although SamKnows states Be will be available by 30th April ).

Over the last week or so, my speeds have dropped from @6-7Mb down to just over 1.5Mb.

The week before this, I experienced many disconnections and had to keep rebooting the router in order to get my speeds back up to normal.

Now however, no matter what I try, the speeds stay the same at just over 1.5Mb d/l.

I notice now, that my IP address appears as starting with a "92." which indicates that I have been migrated over to the CPW servers.

Carrying out a speedtest at www.speedtest.net shows that I am on "Opal Telecom" now rather than AOL.

I have contacted AOL and had the usual varied response from "We will fix the problem within 5 working days" to "Sir....1.5mb is actually very good for your line".

Last night one of the tech people gave me a new login as [email protected] and said that would fix the problem.

I entered it into my DG834G's settings and it did not make any difference - speed still the same.

I don't know what to do now. :(

I'm paying the top whack monthly amount to AOL for their "Up to" 8mb package and I'm getting nowhere near that.

I must add that up until now, I have been happy with the service and package and have had no hassles at all till now.

I'm tempted to jump ship to another ISP, but want to wait to see what Be do regarding my local exchange, before deciding to move.

However, is this likely to be just a "glitch" whilst AOL transfer and migrate over to the CPW servers, that will sort itself out over a short period of time or are we looking at being stuck on low speeds for ever?. No one at AOL appears to know?.

Anyone else had this happen to them over the past week or so?.

I'm starting to get paranoid and have read theories about the CPW servers not being able to take the strain and this "could" be their way of A ) Thining out their customers over what they can use and B ) Hoping that a lot will cancel with them and move thus freeing up more space on their servers.

I know, that sounds nuts but you just never know!!!!.

Hi m8,

Looking at your Speedtest result image it would appear that you are still on an AOL server at your exchange, otherwise it would show "Opal Telecom" instead of "America Online" in the pic.

No one else on AOL had this issue? :(

Yep, I got migrated about 3 days ago. Since then my speed has dropped from the 3.5meg I had originally (max my line can take) to now only 2meg. I contacted AOL to ask where my speed has gone, and they just told me that the speed I was getting was fine, and according to our AOL package anyway, 2 meg is what we should be recieving - highly unbelievable since we've been recieving 3.5meg speed for the last 3 years!

I think its time to change to O2, as from what I've heard there amazing. But our exchange doesn't yet support O2 LLU service, so is there anyone else here who's using O2's Home Broadband Access? Thanks

Fine here, also waiting to switch over to Be* Exchange active 30/06/2008 :)

What a difference a couple of weeks have made. :(

I can recommend a Enta reseller such as Aquiss, ADSL24 and UKFSN if you haven't got access to Be's LLU network. Will most likely be migrating to Be from Aquiss at the end of June/early July. Can say Aquiss and Enta are excellent and the best BTW provider.

LLU providers who move into BTW are usually poor and not a match for their LLU network or dedicated BTW providers.

Not had any problems until recently.Been getting speed drops, I even lost my connection for a while on sunday. I want to change to Be but I can't access the website.

Might want to get someone to 'invite' you if possible to save on the connection fee (although could try your luck getting it waived).

Been trying to fix an AOL connection. It hanged at Looking for TCP/IP connection, or something like that, when connecting via AOL 9 software.

Have updated to AOL 9.0VR, and it's made some new dial up connection called DialBB that connects via a Virtual Private Network.

Ran the Speedtest.net tool and got
969kb/s download
235kb/s upload

Going to suggest the owner switches ISP when they come back off holiday.

Had issues with AOL for about 2 months, speeds dropping to about 446.03 Kbps down and 308.62 Kbps up all day/evening would only increase in the early hours.

Rang support a few times, kept telling me there wasnt a problem and i wasnt capped/traffic shaped at all.

Had been with AOL for about 2 years prior and never had a single problem until CPW got involved.

Asked for my MAC and never looked back :D moved to ADSL24

I have had a few issues with AOL over the past week. I have had my user name changed to "Dialbb" and a new password. After 6 phone calls in 2 days asking why my internet was not working i was sharp running out of patience. I got told off by the tech support supervisor for being harsh with one of his technicians, i was also assured that this technician in question was "The best technical support operator that they had", i just laughed at him.:D

Pyro, i know i'm late but hopefully you'll still answer. :P

Did you learn of DialBB when you upgraded your AOL software?

AOL phoned me up on July 2nd syaing "We're upping your line to 12mb" and we'll give you a new router aswell.

The Router was meant to be here in 5 days and the line was meant to be upgraded in 10 days. Should i have a bash at updating the AOL software for DialBB?
