hi there,

Just noticed this absolutely tiny barebone kit available on ocuk for a mear £117.50

I'm very intrigued and i'm wondering:
1. How silent is this?
2. Will it take normal size HDD's and Optical drives?
3. Any owners experiences? It looks amazing!

Maybe just the kit i'm looking for, for a tiny little download box to sit there quietly and unobtrusive doing it's job.

Thanks,

Mul

aopens xc cube build quality is top notch, case finish is so good it actually comes with a polishing cloth

bit sketchy on the supprt side(take a look at the aopen forum), all though ive been running my ez482 24hrs a day for the last 6 months with the odd restart here and there and i cant fault it

yeh, I have an EZ65-II, which I found excellent, but didn't know much about this barebone kit.

Aren't slimline drive's typically expensive?

Thanks for the info

Depends how you define expensive. If you shop around you can get a DVD-RW for about 80 notes.

I was considering getting an Epia/Mac Mini until you pointed this out and I'm now definitely going to get one of these instead. At £120 it looks a total bargain!

right ok. I'll have a shop for some bog standard slimline DVD Rom drives and if it works out ok, I may just pick one of these up!

hehe my thermaltake soprano came with a cloth. I wouldnt complain about it's quality considering I paid £40 for it.

Hey, i've had a MZ855-II for a few months now as my every day PC & TV :D (2 Nebulas).
It's a top notch machine & super quite :)

a few points worth mentioning...

i run a 2.5" 60GB 16MB cache Toshiba laptop HDD. I did have a 300GB 3.5" Maxtor in there but it was too dam hot & noisey. so if you want it quite go for the laptop hdd.

The memory voltage is not adjustable! you only get 2.5v  Crucial Ballistix 3200 is your friend here, mine running @ 2-2-2-6 24/7 rock solid

Graphics cards are fairly limited as theyre low profile, nvidia 6200 based cards are the best your gonna get, also best to get a passive one

I run a Pentium M 735 which stock is 1.7GHz (17 x 100) if you update the BIOS to 1.03 or higher you can flick the jumper over inside to default the FSB to 133. now you got 17 x 133 2.26GHz P-M 780 speed :)

Over all its a well built machine, cant go wrong for that price
