Hi all,
I ll start, for my first post here, whith a probably really stupid question, but i need your help. I m trying to connect in 5.1 , dts or whatever, my home theater samsung, with 1 arc HDMI, to my 1080 ti which got 2 hdmi entries. but whatever I try, i only manage to get the STEREO option on windows 10. i was wondering if this card has any dolby or dts option. i got a artic msi tomahawk motherboard, with 1 hdmi and the same problem. i hope someone can help me with that thanks

What source are you trying to get 5.1 audio from.? Games or films.?
Also what sound system is it (model number).

Dumb question so sorry if you have done so already, but have you simply set it to 5.1 in Window's playback devices? Sounds like I have a similar setup to you, my top GTX 1080Ti connected via HDMI to my Sony surround sound and to just get 5.1 working in everything, just need to set it like that in Window's Playback device.

z10m any sources, same result. the home is a 4500 samsung , very basic with 1 hdmi ARC, and co ax and av but i want the hdmi ARC to work if its possible.
Radox, the problem is I dont have this options , only stereo selectable. are you using a tv too? do you connect the home to the arc, and the pc to another hdmi ? i dont have thesurround as in the second pic, only stereo, i still get sound in all the speaker but doesnt sound like anything like surround or dts to me-

Are you running the hdmi into the tv it self?

If you are then pretty sure you will only get stereo.

You should have the HDMI running from the graphics card into the surround system.

Ahh right, I hook a line in individually. So Display port into monitor (or into TV when I was using it that way) then another HDMI from my GPU into my AV HDMI / ARC input (but it just treats it like a HDMI In source I suspect)

I would have to agree with imginy, could be if your running it in to your TV, then wanting ARC to do its magic which is why the other options may not show.

imginy , no, i should have mention that i tried everything including arc hdmi tv to arc hdmi receiver, because the receiver only got 1 hdmmi input, and as you said, it doesnt work that way,. so iwas asking what else can i do. i got a 1080 aorus with 2 hdmi,. an oled lg witj 1 arc and 3 hdmi , nd a receiver with 1 arc hdmi and that s it. and 2 4k, 2.0 compatibles hdmi cables. so the question was , is there anyway to get at leas the 5.1 and surround options ont windows as on radox second pic, with hdmi, no line in or optical o av , just hdmi cables. I told you it was probably a stupid question. thanks to all of you for trying to help me by the way

Sorry why do you need more than 1 hdmi input?

run your pc to your receiver, then your receiver to your tv.

HDMI arc only supports uncompressed stereo audio or compressed Dolby digital 5.1 and some dts. To get what radox-0 shows in the picture you need normal hdmi input and not arc.
With arc you can get 5.1 dolby digital/dts in films when using media player that supports bitstream (dd/dts) passthrough.
Many players do that but some need to be configured.
With this type of connection you will not be able to get 5.1 audio in games.

It appears that his audio system only has one hdmi and that is hdmi out and not in which supports ARC (audio return channel).

Oh ok.

Well you can check what it supports by right clicking on the audio source and go properties as pic below.

For these to show you need to make sure you tick the box for the nvidi hdmi audio driver when you install the nvidia graphics driver.

Also in windows 10 I think to get these other encoded formats windows 10 likes you to leave it in stereo.

But I don't think you will get it working through ARC.

exactly . I just want the dolby and 5.1 to show up in the option screen. Is there anyway to do that in hdmi mode and only 1 hdmi from the receiver or no?

@gilveber just try to play video file that has dd 5.1 audio in stock windows 10 video player.
As far as I remember it can passthrough dd/dts without changing any settings.
And as imginy mentioned check “supported formats” for your audio device.

It should as it does for me.

Yeah he should be able to get same as you just, he just needs to get windows to show up the encoded formats?

I think what z10m is saying is if you can get windows to show the encoded formats it will still be playing the good audio if you have the right source even if it's only showing stereo in windows it will still be able to put out the raw audio for your receiver.

Me and radox have ours running direct from pc into the input on our receiver which is 8 channel so will show as doing 5.1/7.1 etc and give us full surround sound in games and all sources.

Where as yours is going into a 2 channel source so I think it will only show 2 channel in windows. You should still be able to get 5.1 in movies same as z10m mentioned above.

You mentioned earlier that even music was coming out all 5 speakers so I think it would be worth looking at your tv and receiver settings because sounds like one of them could be converting the signal. If nothing is being converted you would expect music to come out 2 channel and movies from 5.

The only think I have ever used arc for was a short time when I wanted to the tv apps to play on my surround so can't help with what settings to use.
