Owned an Aorus 1080 ti extreme since it was released. Overclocked only +30 core and +250 on the memory since day one. Never a problem until a few months ago I decided to delicately remove the gpu cooler to reapply some new thermal paste. On boot up all was good. Dropped temps maybe 5 degrees. During a call of duty gaming session started getting artifacts that looked like light explosions or flashes. Dropped the memory overclock to stock 5500 mhz. After testing I landed on 5300 mhz memory. Or -200 mhz down clock. Tried new thermal pads and new thermal paste. No effect. So not happy at this point. I decided to water cool the gpu with a kraken g12 and the core is now sitting pretty at 2101 mhz but the memory is now only stable at 5200 mhz. Tried adding copper heat sinks to the vram but that didn't help. So here I am with a 1080 ti with +70 on the core and -300 mhz on the memory. The silence is golden but I'm perplexed on the memory situation.

Any ideas? I'm out.

I’m not expert but best bet is RMA if you can. Don’t think there is anything g you can find with the memory and will probably get worse overtime if it’s gone bad.

Ive decided against an RMA due to all the negative reviews regarding the process with Gigabyte. Seems like the majority of times they are more inclined to void a warranty for any reason vs helping the customer. Had I known this before purchasing, I would have gone with evga or msi. America has good laws that allow us to legally take a part our electronics and still claim warranty help. Most companies ignore that and then it falls on me to take them to small claims court. At this point, I'm just not going to go thru the hassle. Sad but true.

RMA it what do you have to lose?
Gigabyte have a good rep in the UK with RMA. I removed my cooler to apply new paste and haven't had any issues.
Maybe @GIGA-Man could offer some advise

I've read a recent review of a guy getting denied RMA from Gigabyte USA simply because there was evidence that the screws on the back plate were removed. What I've got to lose is the use of a gaming card for what I've read up to 4 weeks while the Gigabyte folks figure out a way to deny the claim. I'm just going to run this mule into the ground and never look at another Gigabyte product. This coming from a user who registered with this site 15 years ago. :(

Hello all,

This is a tricky one... I understand people use third party coolers and water blocks, if the card is still in warranty I make sure it still get supported.... However, if it's obvious the card is now faulty due to physical damage caused by user, we will charge for repair and won't replace the item.

Raise an RMA with us, refence this conversion with the RMA person and I will see what we can do. Sound fair?
