Aorus Master / Extreme (3080+3090) Thread

I don't have my 3080 Xtreme yet so I can't say for certain but what you describe does not sound right. Have you checked that you have the latest drivers and uninstalled any previous drivers? Also check the bios version of the card, there has been new bios versions provided by Gigabyte which raise the MAX TGP to 450W which might enable you to overclock it without crashing.
Yeah it was pretty much a new build so it was a fresh install of windows/drivers. I’ve tried flashing the bios but it didn’t make a difference. From looking at reviews, my 3DMark scores are more in line with a 3080 FE so it’s not completely horrendous but still disappointing. The other issues are concerning though!

Don't use OC scanner, do it manually, you'll get better results. Did you try a reinstall of the drivers? And does your card have a dual bios?
I’ve tried it manually too and it crashes. Yeah I’ve tried reinstalling drivers but no luck. It does, it’s got an OC/silent switch on the card, I haven’t tried switching to silent so I might try that.

Hi guys,

So I received my Aorus 3080 Xtreme but I’m feeling a little underwhelmed by it’s performance.

I’ve gone from an i7-8086k and 2080 Ti to an i9-10900k and a 3080.

On Time Spy my CPU score went from 8622 to 13731 which is a huge jump but my Graphics score went 16217 to 17563. Total score went from 14324 to 16857. Honestly the CPU score was a lot higher than I expected but the GPU score is a lot lower than expected.

Similar results on Time Spy Extreme CPU score went from 4101 to 6608 but the GPU score went from 7564 to 8964.

CPU score went up 37% on both but the GPU score went up 7% and 15%.

My 2080 Ti was overclocked but I can’t overclock my 3080 at all, it crashes every time I run the OC Scanner on MSI afterburner.

I’ve tested a few games and some seem to run okay but I honestly feel like I’m barely getting a performance bump from my previous build. AC Odyssey still dips into the 50s with everything maxed at 4K and watch dogs legion is a bit of a mess. I’m also getting horrendous frametime spikes and frame drops on rocket league. Whenever I open the menu I get a stutter and tabbing in the menu stutters every time and gameplay is just as bad. Stuff like boosting, demolitions or goal explosions cause huge frame drops to the point where it’s unplayable. Ori and the will of the wisps couldn’t hold 4K/120 either, even dropping into the 70s/80s which shocked me.

I feel like I may be being paranoid or expecting too much?! But something just doesn’t feel right with this card.

Roughly what percentage increase in frame-rate are you getting? from what I have been looking at, user reports, the 3080 achieves about a 25% increase over the 2080ti.

It’s hard to say really but my 3DMark graphics scores are coming in at around the same or even lower than 3080 FE review scores which is a bit worrying.

You're comparing a 3080 to a 2080Ti, when the 3080 is a replacement for the 2080. This is why you feel the increase is smaller

I'd run gpu-z and have a look at the voltage and watt draw for the board, maybe the OC bios setting is pushing the Clocks too far. Maybe drop the gpu clock down 100mhz and see if that gives you more stability

I still think it’s underperforming and the fact it crashes when attempting to OC is a bit worrying.

I dunno no really. I mean it is already heavily overclocked, it does not surprise me too much that it won't go any higher. Which mode does it default to? I assume that's OC mode?

But then that begs the question why it’s not outperforming a 3080 FE and only a 7-15% improvement over my 2080 Ti

Indeed. Did you check the default mode? I don't know about the 3080 but Gigabyte often default to not-overclocked. I think it has a switch? Or is the mode switched via the gigabyte software?

The switch is on OC by default, the other switch is ‘silent’. I’ll try the silent switch later to see how that performs.

Just running the numbers... OCUK have shipped 20 (Generous estimate) 3080 Xtremes since launch, so with my queue position (86) the ETA for me to receive mine will be June - July 2021 next year if the stock doesn't ramp up considerably. Good job I still have my 2080.

Did you try the non oc mode yet?
Yeah no difference unfortunately.

https://imgur.com/QgLOgwo - This is my frametime while playing Rocket League.

https://imgur.com/UutSV4s - Frametime while playing Ori and the Will of the Wisps. I was getting similar frame drops when using abilities.

I just tried AC:Odyssey and my CPU temp was spiking into the 80s at times which seems pretty high.

I just seem to have a bunch of issues here with this new build and I don't even know where to begin, so frustrating

Got my 3080 Aorus Master today, things a big chungus of a gpu! Letting it run in before i start tinkering with OCing.

5900X arrives Thursday, so i will strip down the PC, install the 5900x and the new Arctic Freezer 2 420mm AIO and my new white cables.

Bunged it in for now just to see how it runs, fired up Watchdogs Legions and tested DLSS and Raytracing, to be honest i dont see the fuss with the Raytracing, DLSS though seems a decent boost.

Fired up Division 2 and i can now run it on max settings at 3440x1440p and hit my 100mhz cap on my screen.

Downloading Black Ops to try it out next.
Can I know what was your last position update number? I've ordered same card and just want to estimate how many they got :D

Would like to ask the owners of RTX 3080 MASTER how many RPM do fans have in closed case during gaming with new BIOS F2 and silent mode set?
