Aorus Owner's Lounge

Ok once again thanks a lot for your support, unfortunately the box was damaged (I have pictures in case you need) but the laptop was sealed and ok. Needless to say that I believe you when you say the box was fine, obviously dpd did something wrong... as you can see they also messed up with the delivery...

Anyway said that, the laptop started with a critical error at the first power on, then off and on again and it started correctly, it also started a series of automated scripts the first time win started ... Not sure what was this about... Maybe some initialisation procedure installed by you :) ? Anyway now it's running fine, I'll keep monitoring it.

I've sent you the warranty sn as requested by email.

Thanks again

Hi guys - I was looking to purchase one of these today (the X3 plus v5), however reading the thread put me off slightly.

Reading that they may now be OK and ready to ship, or am I reading that wrong?

I also spoke to OC today and they mentioned that if I upgrade the RAM and internal disks, that will invalidate the warranty? Is that correct? As I wanted to put 32GB in (virtual machines) and 2x 512 SSD.

Can someone from Gigabyte/Aorus confirm that definitely the case, as if it is, I won't be purchasing one...?

They should be ok.
Re upgrade I want to know as well since I need 32 to run my labs, Atom can you elaborate?

Also can you let us know which exact ddr and disk? As I was looking online but didn't find any.

Hi Both,

As long as you have the confidence to perform the upgrades yourself, without causing damage to the components we do not void warranty simply for opening machines.

We will ask HQ on brand of ram and ssd installed.

Hope that clarifies.

Thanks Atom - I also raised a query on the aorus.com site and received the following which is good news:

"We are sorry there is no customize laptop feature at this point. We will forward your needs to relevant parties for their awareness.

If you want to replace drives and RAM by yourself, you may do it yourself and this will not void your warranty. Nevertheless, if there is any damage caused by your installation or problem occurred or in the device you install, this is out of warranty. Please do with caution. "

If you could confirm the RAM/SSD specs that would be great. I was going to look at the following if they would work?

Hi,

Its me again :( coming back with bad news on my laptop, was watching movies on it the other night an noticed that my screen has really back light spots around the edges specifically done at bottom right had on my screen almost like someone is pushing their thumb on the screen from behind to cause it to be light...is this a fault with the application of screen onto frame? It gets rather annoying when image is in low light or black. Don't want to come across like an annoying prude but for a laptop thats almost 2k in price i would have thought the screen would be flawless.

Thanks,

Liam

Hi Liam,

The IPS panels used can give some degree of Backlight Glow, which varies from panel to panel. If you feel something is not right, please contant the service centre and we can get it checked and repaired if there is a fault.

Cheers - when do you think you'll hear back as I'm keen to get the order in today?

Hi Hawk862,

The SSD that we have tested and have on our approved list, is this one:

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/sams...state-drive-mzvpv512hdgl-00000-hd-214-sa.html

With regards to the ram, we install either Transcend or Crucial brands in this model. HQ have only received the 16GB samples from Transcend this week, and tests are being conducted right now. Results should be confirmed early next week, at which point we will post the specific module.

Hope that helps,

Regards,

Thanks Atom,

I've just pulled the trigger and ordered the laptop and SSD drive you mentioned.

I've been debating with myself whether to go with the Aorus or new MSI laptop. MSI haven't been overly helpful/responsive where as your feedback/input has been top notch. I've therefore based my decision on your support. Just goes to show that customer focus goes a long way :)

Cheers for your help !

one last question, are these the same as already installed in the x3 v5 plus?

I guess i'll have to install the win10 from scratch to configure the raid0 from the BIOS, in this case, can I use the iso image I can download from Microsoft website and then install the drivers on the aorus page? do i need to follow a different procedure? anything special needed in regard of the laptop?

thanks
