Apache Air Assault

I played the demo on the 360 so I can't speak for PC specifically but it was horrendous. Linear, below average graphics, bad music and the AI was akin to that of singleplayer in the earlier Battlefield games.

I have played the game, it is not a hardcore heli sim but Battlefield 2 style dynamics. The game appeals more for those who like flight combat but don't want to learn when they need to inject water into magneto coils. Also it is more console oriented, but features realistic handling similar to Armed Assault aircraft.

Overall, the game reminds me of the old DI Longbow game which was not too realistic (like Jane's or Razorworks series) but was fun with the fast paced action. Attacking convoys, air-air combat and also evading troop fired SAMs. You even get to see the little buggers run into the middle of the road to launch one!!

You do get to fly a UAV-type chopper and the one we all miss from DI - Hind!! Cockpits are pretty good too, for display purpose only (no button pressing mfd's) but you do get weapon views, tv-view, infra-red camera and hud only.

For quick helicopter fun without spending weeks learning to fly a Blackshark with a 500page PDF manual, then the game is good enough to dust off my old Saitek joystick.

My type of game!
