Hello hello,

I'm off to look at my first ever quad bike tomorrow and I'm after a bit of advice.

It's an Apache rlx 100, going for £500 ono.

Anyone on here have / had one and could anyone recommend what to look out for?

I'm looking for something that I can use on my new croft (the contracts were exchanged just a few days ago :D ), so something that works in a field, will tow little things and could have a rack mounted on the back. Oh and the cheaper the better. Ebay is an option but I don't see many coming up within a few 100 miles of me.

The Apache doesn't look like it fits the bill that well, but with a few modifications it may get most of the way there.

Cheers

I don't know much about quads, but there are plenty of quads out there that already have all the racks and gubbins and tow ropes and winches already attached, I'm sure you'd find something to fit the bill perfectly with a little searching. Trials & motocross news may have something to suit you in it, although it's a little more competition oriented but there's probably a few like it in there. Also, bike trader is rammed with ads for new, cheap quads. No idea if they're any good though, most of the cheap ones are chinese knock offs, but certainly worth a look.

Thanks for the info Moh, idealy I'd be after something like this but the price is out of my budget and its 300 miles south of here!

Will be giving the classifieds a browse over the weekend, but this Apache is being sold by a guy at work so I thought I'd take a butchers.

One thing to bear in mind with quads is that repair bills can be astronomic.
Whilst the 100cc you are going to have a look at may not really be up to the job -no towing certainly;you might be better off having something like that and thinking off it as disposable, rather than getting the type you mentioned you really want .
My 3or4 y.o. kawi360 has done all of 3k miles but needed the clutch changing and a new belt - left me with a bill of c£1000
