Apb maker realtime worlds in administration

I posted in a different thread on this.

"Its a dam shame, I worked there for a year (would have been 2 years this month I started) on the My World project (which could have been there Deus Ex so to speak), and the main issues with the gameplay on APB were there when I played the game for the first two years ago. Nothing was done despite most the QA staff warning them. I could go on and talk about other "face palm" type stuff but i don't want to bad mouth peeps that have otherwise had a ****ty day today.

I don’t regret my time there, Dave J is a really nice guy, was a little scary at first being in meetings with him. Even got to meet Mark Rein one day when he visited and he signed my copy of UE3, good days."

Actually the method used was to test specific things at set times.
Rather than let people play a game for free and not report bugs.

oh come on
the WHOLE point of open betas (now) is to stress test the game and get some interest going!

This really sucks to hear. I have a very good friend that works there. It is so sad to hear that the management didn't listen to the rest of the staff about the game.

To the people that are laughing about this unfortunate situation, you need to grow up. 170 people have lost their jobs, and mostly through no fault of their own. You wouldn't really find it funny if you lost your job and folks were laughing at you now would you

It wasn't an open beta, in fact I don't ever recall it having an open beta. It was still technically closed beta, including an non disclosure agreement on sign up, pretty much up until release, it's just that at the end they started handing out keys willy-nilly and most people who got in that way either ignored or were oblivious to the NDA.

I actually am quite sad RTW is going. I did beta test APB and honestly it did just seem like they forced it out onto the market because they couldn't afford to keep it in production, though to be honest the beta was more than a bit chaotic, with features being removed for 6 months only to be put back 2 months before release, and still pretty much just as broken as before. I'll still remember RTW fondly for Crackdown, but APB was a mess :(

I don't think people are laughing at the people who worked there but at the management.

If i walk into work & found out that it was going to fold i would laugh my head off because the management is clueless & mega poor with no first hand experience in any department leading to planing mistakes day in day out in which the workforce that keeps it all together in spite of them when they should have asked us how to plan it first & then learn from it.
But ultimately if the management make big enough of a clanger then no workforce can pull them out of the hole they made.

Based on that alone, I'm not going to reply again because you have no idea what you're talking about, as mentioned already all the short time testing was closed beta.

Such is the investment required per game in the industry, it's hardly surprising that it just takes one complete shocker of a title for a firm to go belly up :(

Unfortunately it's facts like those that make high-budget, 'lets try something completely new' games virtually unheard of :(

You can survive a normal bigflop, but it's the investment and upkeep involved in a mmo that really makes it hard.

To be expected, some people already mentioned something surprising further up the thread that I had heard directly from a QA tester as well: That the QA were telling the devs that the game sucked and to do X and X and X to fix it, but they were getting ignored constantly :(

I dont see why they dont put out a level 1-5 demo, this MAY encourage people to go buy it. Leats get them a bit of money. Id love to try it but theres NO way in hell im paying £30 to find out it sucks.

they were handing out keys like candy (key giveaways on fileplanet for instance among many others), only they were limiting gameplay to 3 hours a week.

It was no closed beta. It may have been called 'closed beta' but the world at large was playing. And if youre going to be inviting 20 odd thousand people to play, they better be playing the finished product, especially if its only for 3 hours a week. Callit whatever you want but that many people guarantees broken ndas and first impressions last.

The limited gameplay time lost potential players. The overhyped game lost potential players. From the sound of it, the inability to listen to their own QA lost many potential players, and tbh the game just wasnt that great.

I do feel vaguely sorry that people are losing their jobs but looking for sympathy on the internet should probably only be done at lolcats. The final arbiter is the success of the company and somebody screwed the pooch royally.

When I tested, there were so little people at times it was me and 3 other people on the only server online. FOUR PEOPLE.

This was before loads and loads of other people were accepted so yeah my point still stands.

But were they telling them that it sucked or telling them that something wasn't working?
It's not QAs Job to tell them if the overall thing sucks or not. It's their job to help find as many bugs as possible.

QA = Quality Assurance

To me that means that when something goes to QA that it is fit for purpose. If the game does suck then surely they should feed that back.

Beta testing = finding bugs - but that should be after several layers of QA.

I watched a video on youtube about APB the guy being interviewed talked for almost 4 minutes about their unique system that gave you an arrow towards your objective and how much it helped him play.

From the moment i saw the first gameplay i thought this game would be a flop. A game like the gta multiplayer but in full mmo scale has very great potential. But it has to be done right, and that would not be an easy job especially if you don't listen to q/a
