My Apc smart-ups 750 has got a battery failing warning so I have ordered some Lucas replacement batteries, the current batteries are only 2 years old i can't remember the make until i swap them out but they are supposed to last 3-5 years, does anyone have experience of this?

How long is a piece of string. Will depend on how the UPS/battery is getting treated in regard to battery drainage and recharging cycles.

I normally get my APC batteries from ups-trader (dont think that classes as a competitor?), my last RBC7 is coming up for 3 years now. But it's not often it gets a full drain as the power is pretty stable here.

Like said usage affects battery life time.
If there are lots of blackouts and especially deeper battery discharge causing ones (and without recharging soon) that eats lead battery life.

Also have heard that at least some APC models try to push lots of charge into batteries to increase backup time.
And no batteries like overcharging.

Think its only had 2 ten minute power cuts since it was installed, its probably the batteries, in fact this one may have been refurbished with 'new' batteries when i bought it, I will see whats inside when the replacements arrive.

With my old belkin 1200va/650watt ups I changed the batts twice, a set lasted about 3-4 yrs.. I havent yet changed the batts in my current UPS, Powerwalker 2000va/1800watt , but its due for the first set of new batts anytime though.

As mentioned it will depend on usage but I've rarely got less than 5 years out of my APC ones even with moderate use.

The one on my NAS is just coming up on 5 years and showing it is holding about 70% of its original capacity.
