APC UPS's

Hi All,

I've used a few APS UPS units on Desktop PC's, routers and networking equipment. I've recommended that a customer has one installed on their ageing SBS 2003 box to hopefully prolong the life of the machine, until they can finalise the funding for me to provide a new one.

A lot of the APC units list the software as "PowerChute Personal Edition" - will this be suitable for server installations or should I be looking at a more expensive unit?

How will a UPS prolong the life of the machine?

Having a UPS is obviously a good idea, I wouldn't run a production server without one.

For a server I'd be looking at a Smart-UPS or Smart-UPS Online (or equivalent from another supplier) which would use 'Business Edition' version software.

What I'm concerned about is power outages as the workshop is out in the country and power cuts are quite common.

second an apc smart-ups. refurbs are available on the auction place for not much money. look up a seller called "ups-trader" i got a 1500 from them and new batteries since. their after sales support is very good too.
