Merry Christmas all!

I run aperture 3.0 at the moment from a WD 500gb external small hard drive without any problems at all. Not sure if its USB 3 or 2 but I've been thinking about using a USB flash driver pen instead.

How do you think a 128GB USB 2 flash driver would fair?

Thanks!

Well technically the read/write speeds to flash storage are going to be quicker on a USB2.0 Flash drive, in contrast to a USB2.0 traditional external hard drive. You're prob best to determine whether your WD drive is USB3.0 or not before making a decision.

However, its worth bearing in mind that Apple don't recommend the use of AP3 libraries on a none-local disk for performance reasons IIRC.

Ok I've googled the model number and its a 5400rpm usb2.0 external hard drive so with that in mind a USB 2.0 stick should be Atleast the same if not better?

Thanks!

Yeah, solid state storage will most definitely be faster than a 5400rpm USB2 disk.

How 'new' is your Air, does it have USB3? Obviously, unless it supports it you wouldn't see any benefit from picking up a USB3 disk/flash drive anyway.
