Slow to notice this as I have been busy lately but I can't see another topic on this:

First impressions of Photos are pretty poor, so I think I will be sticking to Aperture for now. Obviously in the long term a move to lightroom seems like the logical step. Has anyone else done this? Does lightroom export all my albums from Aperture? Is there a better bit of software for sub £100 that I should be looking at?

Thanks

Dave

Well at the mo I'm trying to choose between Lightroom and Capture One Pro 8. The latter seems more powerful.

There's a lot more to Photos than it initially seems.

Take a look here, here and here (although the latter link is more about iCloud Photos).

I'm not saying you shouldn't use something else but it does seem that the Photos app does do a lot more than just store pictures. It may (or may not) be a decent alternative to Aperture once you delve further into it.

I agree with Feek,at first i dismissed it because I was annoyed that Aperture support had ended but after spending more time exploring Photos I'm loving it but Im not a serious PP compared to a great many people but it has all i need and I love how it links so easily to Flikr Facebook etc and also the slideshows you can create.
so probably not for the serious PP but for everyone else explore it a bit more and you may get to like it.

I moved over to Lightroom some time ago, shortly after the end of Aperture was announced. I didn't have a very large library however, so moving over wasn't all that complex or time consuming.

For me the Creative Cloud photo package of Lightroom and Photoshop for less than £9 a month was a big factor in my choice. Along with the fact I can now, with some help from Dropbox, use both apps and the same libraries on both my MBP and Windows desktop. Which is handy when I have some heavier PP to do so using better hardware is good, and/or want to sit at the desk with a large screen etc.

I do miss aperture sometimes however, but not enough to keep using it. And as for photos, I have it and have photos in it, but only for iCloud syncing to the iPad and iPhone really. Anything from the DSLR is handled in Lightroom.
