apogee gtx

mathwat, have you got any bigger pics, and some of the clogged pins in the base of the block? How long did it take to get to that state?

I shudder to think what the inside of my GTX is like - have an aluminium top and an XSPC reservoir!

Although I can't see the pic from this PC I can guess what it is (Galvanic corrosion on the inside of the Alu top?). I did actually warn folk about this a few weeks back.

Did you use any Glycol based coolant or just plain distilled? You must use some form of anti corrosive coolant if you are going to mix metals, plated or not. Hope you get it sorted.

D you plan on RMA'ing the stock top - I certainly would. Gabe has not actually admitted to there being a design fault but the stock top is obviously not fit for purpose imo.

i will rma it later.. why don't they put the copper top on it the first place.. it could have recked my cpu/motherboard if i didn't notice the temps climbing really high..

yes but if they know/or don't won't to know there's a problem they should fix it.. don't get me wrong it is a good block with the copper top, keeps my cpu nice and cool..

It's a great design for sure, just the wrong materials. There's a thread about it on XS where swiftech (Gabe) actually gets involved in defending it and makes a bit of a hash of it:rolleyes:..

Are you sure that is corrosion and not just the paint/die comming off?

Is it smooth to the touch? if so then your feeling the zinc/cobalt plating and then there is a layer of nickel plating under that.
Google gtx + toothbrush and your see lots of simular images

try brushing the underside with a toothbrush - it should 'wash' off but you need some elbow grease and 10-20 minutes.
