Hey everybody. I was wondering if you guys could help me with a problem that has been really irritating me.

I recently won a new 128MB Apollo GeForce 6800 "Vanilla" AGP card off of eBay for a very reasonable price, and this morning it arrived. All seemed well when I stuck it in my machine and it booted up, until... I noticed some minor wavy lines being displayed over my monitor, like signal interference.

So I install the card's driver and successfully set up the TV out. But the wavy lines are still there, on both my monitor and my TV. They practically kill my TV-out signal.

The idea of the card overheating had occured to me, but according to NView, the temprature of the card idle is 41 degrees, and 55 under load. They're acceptable tempratures, aren't they?

Do you guys have any idea what's causing this? I've tried updating the device drivers, I've checked the quality of the cables I'm using for my output devices... heck, I've even tried disabling the card's freakishly large fan temporarily to see if that was causing the interference, but all to no avail. I haven't attempted unlocking the pipelines on this card or anything else.

Any and all suggestions are welcome. I've already checked out the sticky about 6800 cards ar the top of the forum, but perhaps I missed something. If you need more details, just ask.

Thanks! :)

It could be a faulty card or it could be interference, do you have anything near to the card or the cables that could be causing it e.g. speakers, other electrical devices etc?

Brand new.

Sounds like it might be faulty, but I just discovered a cached page on google from a online store which I can't link here. It appears I'm not the only one with this problem. One of the customers recommends setting the refresh rate on my monitor higher than 60Hz, and indeed, that appears to have elevated most of the signal interference. However, there is still a little intereference, and of course increasing the refresh rate isn't making any difference to the TV-out signal, since it's locked with the television standard I'm using (PAL-I, 60Hz).

I don't believe I have anything which could cause the interference in operation near the computer. I'll unplug all my speakers and everything and get back to you.

Any other ideas, or is it time to RMA?

Sorry to bump this thread, but I said I'd get back to you guys. I've tried checking everything, and there are no devices here that could cause this interference. I might have to return this card.

I think that a RMA is your best option then, if there is nothing obvious to cause interference and you can't use the card as you intended. Distance Selling Regulations are likely to be what you need if the seller gives you any problems :)

Thanks for the replies.

I contacted the seller, detailing the problem in full, and I basically got a response which comprised of "You plug in power ok yes???". :/ This is going to be fun... :p
