Hi

I need / want (still not sure which) to upgrade for BF3,thinking of ordering tomorrow

I currently have the following

Asus P5Q Pro
Q9550 oc'd to 4.1Ghz
4gb corsair dominator 5-5-5-15
Saphire 4870x2 2048mb

All the above is water cooled so will need to replace the blocks etc which i appreciate ocuk might not have ? but please keep this in mind especially for the gpu

Now I ran the alpha / beta on auto settings which i reckon is low? and get a playable 60 fps so if i' upgrading want to at least play on ultra settings with 60+ fps

sooo.....

was thinking aling the lines of the following

I5 2500 3.30Ghz
8g ram, any suggestions ?
560/570/580,6950, 6990 - please help ?
mobo - asrock ? (want the option for ivybridge when it arrives next year)

Feel free to say if you would just swap the GPU only for the time being

Thanks in advance

well, heres a comparison of the i5 2500k and the processor you have. neither are overclocked, but with watercooling you could get at least 4.7Ghz out of it, so the comparison seems fair

Thats what I've been pondering over for the past week, would be a great help short term if i just need to get a new / gpu

Cant see the comparison but are you both thinking along the lines of just the gpu then ? and not much gain from the i5 ?

He missed his link

The 2500K is noticably better, but for purely gaming I doubt it would show up particularly as games will still be 95% gpu dependent, imo, unless they actually start comparing 2 identical systems running top end cards at proper resolutions and detail settings its a bit of a misinformation almost, they run these tests at low res/detail to highlight the cpu differences but in reality no one actually plays at those settings

btw its for 1920x1200 res 59hz - single monitor

Can anyone give me a recommendation on a 580, looking now but have always been a ati fanboy since my last 8800gt so not too sure on brand
