App for compressing video files

On an Android phone

it’s just to reduce the file size for sending videos through WhatsApp

does whatsapp do the converting with the phone/device before it starts upoading? or more like Youtube where it will do the converting/processing once the original file is uploaded?

this is for my dad btw....reason I was asking is to reduce file size as upload speed is really poor

cheers Zefan...had a look on my iPhone - the edit/trim screen doesn't show any filesize (Androidf Whatsapp might display more detailed info) info but I'll give it a try
