I realise I haven't made the title very clear, here's what I want to do.

Our 11 month old is crawling about but the lazy wee goat needs an incentive to do so and we have found that daddy's iPhone is the most attractive thing to get him to crawl towards. He loves it and his "reward" for the effort is to get to play with the phone once he reaches it. It's working wonders for his crawling skills ( got the idea from Youtube videos other parents had put up ) but the only thing is when he gets it his little fingers end up pressing and activating all sorts of stuff. To date he's deleted apps, phoned people, deleted phots etc. Quite funny but a bit annoying!!.

So, is there any way to stop any touches of the screen from having any effect?. Or an app perhaps that will lock out such screen touches and gestures but still leave what is currently on the phone screen running so it grabs his attention?.

Ta. :)

I would imagine the only way to do this is if your iPhone is jailbroken...

I know there are jailbreak apps out there that stop the home button doing anything, so I'm sure there is something for your needs.

Cheers, yeah my phone is Jailbroken, I'll have a scout around to see if there is anything that might help.

Maybe switching it off before he gets his hands on it may be the only solution?

Possibly but the thing is, his reward for all the effort put in to crawl from one side of the room to the other is that he gets to play the "In the Night Garden" app for a few minutes. That ( and the appeal of the screen lit up when he is further away from it ) is what makes him want to crawl towards it. If he knows I'll just grab it and switch the screen off once he gets his wee hands on it then he might not see it as an incentive!!. :D

Personally I wouldn't let an 11 month old anywhere near my iPhone!!

What about getting an old touch screen phone off ebay or a friend and using that?

pick up a first gen ipod touch, load the app, leave the child do the rest ?

This was going to be my suggestion, I reckon there could be some quite cool apps you could get for him to mess around with. maybe even a waterproof case or something in case he chews it? (i have only ever had dogs, don't know if humans chew stuff :p)

This is a plan I'm going to follow up. It's awesome watching him with it. He's not even 1 yet and he will quite happily sit and flick his wee fingers across the screen and scroll through photos etc as well as press things on the screen when prompted such as the Night Garden game app's stuff to make his favorite characters do things and make noises.
