If you’re an Apple app store shopper, your world will never be the same again. All those apps you buy that cost a mere 59p are going up in price – to a walloping 69p. It’s part of a huge increase across the app price board. Here’s the new pricing structure in full….

59p is now 69p
£1.19 now £1.49
£1.79 now £1.99
£2.39 now £2.49
£2.99 still £2.99
£3.49 now £3.99
£3.99 now £4.99
£4.99 now £5.49
£5.49 now £5.99
£5.99 now £6.99
£6.99 now £7.99
£7.49 now £8.99
£8.99 now £10.49
£9.49 now £10.99

However, we’re learning that the price of apps in Australia has actually come DOWN instead of gone up. That’s because they do everything backwards down there or something – we learned that off of the Mr Men.

Not surprising TBH. The exchange rates are different now to how they were when the app store launched.

If $0.99 = £0.69 why doesn't $999.00 equate to £699.00 when it comes to the MacBook? It is £867!! They should be equalising hardware prices.

do they put down costs when the currency changes in our favour, do they ****

This is my gripe with it as well. 10p on 59p is not going to kill anybody but I'll be very surprised to see it come down in the future.

The current MacBooks are a good example of the price creeping. £867 for the base MacBook is nothing short of ridiculous.

True that! The very first Core Duo Macbook I paid for £790 custom set up in 2006:

MacBook (white), 13.3-inch,
1.83GHz Intel Core Duo
1GB 667 DDR2 - 2x512MB SO-DIMMs
60GB Serial ATA drive
Combo Drive

But the base was only around £700 I think so it has being slowly creeping up from then!

It's interesting that they're not adjusting the price of music based on currency fluctuations. Why was a 99c song 79p but a 99c app 59p?

I can only guess that music prices are negotiated locally.

with regards to hardware the US price doesnt include local taxes which vary state to state, so when you factor in that the UK price includes VAT its not far off, the app store is ridiculous though
