App updates and emails don't show

I have to open the appstore and wait a few seconds before it shows me available updates instead of showing a little red number on the app icon like it used to. Same with email. Sometimes it decides to work, but some days I have to keep checking. I've tried restarting the phone but only fixes the problem for a short time.

On the App Store front, is automatic updates turned on? If so it'll be doing the updates itself in the background whenever you iPhone is on charge and connected to wifi.

What email service do you use? And do you view them on other devices?

I don't have automatic updates on. When I go to the store, I wait a few seconds then it shows me there are updates available instead of telling me before I open the app.

I use Hotmail and yes I also check them on my iPad. Although I'm not sure if they come through to that or not cause I rarely check them on there.

I believe since the automatic updates feature came in, if you don't have it turned on it will not automatically check for updates like it used to. So you would have to manually go and check.

For the hotmail account, check Settings > Mail, Contacts and Calendars > Fetch New Data.

If there's an option for the hotmail account to be push make it that (i'm not sure if hotmail supports this as i don't use it), if not have it as fetch, then at the bottom set a time frame that the iPhone automatically fetches new emails.

Worth noting that having it set to push or a regular fetch would reduce battery life of the handset.

That makes sense for the app store.

And for the emails it says that when the push system is not available then the fetch system will be used. My fetch system was set to manual. That explains why it happened every now and then. I set it to fetch every 15 minutes when push isn't available.

Thanks a lot!
