This morning my XBox of 3 1/2 months has given up the ghost, returning an 'unplayable disc' error for every game I try and play on it. This is great and all, especially as I have absolutely no recollection of where my receipt is, so it won't be a simple case of going back to the purple shirted ones with it!
Hoorah!

The remainder of my week off just got very sucky!
What process do I need to go through to return the white box of gloom to MS, or can anyone think of a conceivable way that I could give it back to the purple shirts without a receipt?

This has really annoyed me, as a PS2 owner I fully bought into the 360 thing, loved the games and all, and the Live experience, ignoring the 'XBox dying' stuff as nothing, and then this happens!

if you paid by credit card you can use a statement proofing where and when you purchased it if brought with cash i think your stuck unless i dunno if it'll work but if you used a reward card wouldnt it recgonise the points u would have earned buying the console?

You can ring Xbox 360 hardware support on <insert no. here> (Websense has blocked Xbox website for me) and they can tell whether your machine is in warranty by its serial number.

I just thought, don't the purple shirted ones keep records of purchases? I seem to remember perhaps my address being given or something for the purchase, failing that I know what date it was etc, so I'm going to try giving them a call and asking. Would be a lot easier if I could do a straight swap, broken xbox for non-broken xbox, rather than having to send it off to get repaired.

I know someone who works at that store and as said above all you need to do is take a statement into the store and they will trace your receipt and replace your console. Hopefully you didn't use cash. If you did use cash then MS will have to sort it out for you.

I used my debit card, so they should be able to trace the purchase. Here's hoping :/

Try and take a statement, showing your purchase, with you and you'll be fine.

Although my proper through-the-post statement saw the shredder long ago, and I assume a print-out from online banking won't cut it, so this may take a trip to the bank as well. Bah!

I found the receipt!

Screw you guys, I'm off to Purple Shirt Land!

Print off the Sale of Goods Act fact sheet before you go.
Do not expect them to know what your rights are.
Stay calm or they'll phone the Police which doesn't help.

There were no worries at all, got a replacement, and despite telling the man I didn't bring back GoW with it as it wasn't broken, got another bundle copy of GoW. The only downside is, I now don't have my save games (didn't think to ask to swap hard drives, D'oh!). Oh well, the only save game I'll really miss is my garage with every Ferrari in it on PGR3, apart from that they don't really matter.

Ho hum, I'm off to play some XBox Live :D

Haha, there was never going to be any worries, in my line of work we get taught how to be diplomatic and calm ;)

I had exactly the same problem last Sunday. Rang MS and they sent UPS to collect it and its with MS at the moment. Up to 15 working days turn around time before I get it back...
