appealing points on my license

It's not about who it directly effects, it's about the potential effect - which is the same regardless of time of day.

So if you parked on the lines at 3pm on a Friday and got fined, but someone doing it at 9 hours later got politely asked to move, would you not be a bit miffed? I would!

I am curious to see the area in question to understand what the potential effects are. As there are a bunch of other cars and some takeaway van there, and the guy was hopping out of his car and visiting the takeaway van, I get the feeling the potential effect is approximately zero.

Three points for slightly intruding on to zigzag lines at midnight on a Tuesday/Wednesday.

It's "offences" like this and their subsequent enforcement that really make me wonder what the hell we are wasting our time on these things for.

Because if we let everyone just park wherever they wanted, there would be chaos. We also cannot have laws which state:

'You MUST NOT park on the zigzag approach to a Zebra crossing, unless its a bit late, or you think its quiet or you only want a quick Kebab'.

It's all or nothing.

?These sorts of threads are always really great when the logicians come along and point out what has happened. Do you think it's a great idea? Is this what we want?

He wants to know if he can appeal, and the honest answer is that no, not really.

"sorry, but you have to move"
"no officer"
"sorry but you are causing an obstruction and these people can't access burger van/the sex shop/the library"
"no officer"
"here have three points"
"boo hiss"

The zigzags are not about access, they are about visibility both for pedestrians using the crossing and motorists approaching the crossing. The police officer actually had to stop his car and go searching for the OP. He hardly pulled up alongside, slapped him with 3 points and went off laughing.

They are there to provide a clear, safe crossing area - normally outside schools but often on zebra crossings - stop people parking too close and obstructing the view.

So nothing to do with obstructing access, and the potential effect could be at any time. Might have been worth clarifying before getting on your anti authority high horse?

Your always better parking on the pavement in any situation if you ask me.

Avoid those zigzags.

its all seems fair to me,

1) you did not really need to stop (just hungry)
2) there were other spaces as you obviously parked round the corner
3) there is no dispute over the offence (there were zigzag lines on the road)
4) you are not going to loose your licence over this (ie you already managed to tick up 11 pts)

take away any 1 of the aboce 4 and possibly I would be more sympathetic, however

dont waste the authorities time on this,
