I bought a new iphone but when I try logging in, I keep getting a message "too many codes sent" so I can't use my new phone. This is my first iphone but I used to have an ipod back in the day when I made my Apple ID. Is Apple this bad? I never had this issue with Android/Google.

Have you tried Apple Support?
Yeah they said they can't do anything, it will correct itself in 8 hours but it's been several days. They said the more you try, the longer it will take. I can't even make a new one, it's like my iphone is blacklisted from making a new one. What a joke.

Is this brand new from Apple, or 'new' from somewhere else?
It was a new phone. I tried a family member's working Apple ID and I was able to login but I can't with mine. Apple told me it was a security issue and it would correct itself. They also said if I already had a trusted device to receive codes, I wouldn't face this issue.

Just create one via apple.com/uk and go for them there if you can’t create one from the phone itself.

The account sounds like it’s ~20 years old and you’ve never used it for years so haven’t set up all the modern day security that’s required.

I've tried making a new account via apple.com/uk but that failed even after receiving a verification code to a different mobile number. I'm going to ask someone to create one for me on their device. Hopfully that works.
