Just noticed i had an odd program running - quick googling showed it to be Apple Bonjour which stealth installs with some applications.

What does it do and why is it installed?! I have managed to get rid of it - just crurious.

It's part of iTunes - it's not needed, if you do not wish to have it on your PC simply stop the service [start / run / services.msc] then disable it from starting on startup, reboot and delete from program files..

I was curious when i installed itunes so i googled it.

Came up with some interesting reads:

"Bonjour is Apple’s implementation of Zeroconf that is included with Mac OS X. Bonjour is a service discovery protocol which has the primary function of discovery services on a local area network (LAN). It uses multicast Domain Name System (DNS) service to locate devices such as computers, printers, and services that those devices offer. The beauty of this is that it allows non-experts to connect to these devices and services in an easy and automatic fashion. No complex DHCP or DNS messiness."

Seams like it is used to find devices on your network.

If anyone could shed some further light it would be handy!

From my home use, with it, you can simply connect to your friend's iTunes on OS X via your Windows iTunes - great for network music share in uni with a mix of Mac and Windows users.

I see, so basically it brings windows users into the world of mac? Lol i know that seams really weird but makes sense to me now. Good old apple!
