As a student, can i get any sort of discount on apple care when i buy a mac? I got it in my mind its free or like £50?

Oh yea i'm a HE student this year!

Buy from the HE store and you get 3 years hardware warranty included. But it does not include the phone support which AppleCare includes, they will offer you this (phone support) towards the end of your order if you do it over the phone for an addition of £58.

oh phone support, would you say i would need that? like i know my way around OSX so its not like i am going to have problems with software, just want to be covered if something goes wrong.

Another thing what exactly does the 3 year cover?

It covers the hardware. It covers failure only though so if you tie an iMac to a bungie cord and throw it down the stairs, you obviously won't get a replacement/refund. It's not insurance, essentially.

I bought a Mac Pro under HE store and didn't opt for the additional £58. I think it may be more useful in trying to get Apple to collect your hardware if it fails (rather than lugging it to a store) but it's a personal choice at the end of the day.
