I am getting refunded for my Dell U2711 because there was a problem with the panel.

The antiglare coating looked a bit sparkly on white pages, so am after an non antiglare screen

I went and viewed the Apple cinema display and it looks really nice. I forgot to check the connections, what does it have on the back - Guessing HDMIs, Dual DVI, displayport, audio and a few others.

My other options are to get another U2711 or a Hazro. I have heard issues of bad panels and buzzing on the Hazros.

Does the Apple have any issues with buzzing, panel issues (what panel does it use?)

Thanks

What was the problem with the U2711 panel? The 'sparkling'? Pretty sure all non gloss monitors have it to some extent. I'm pretty close to buying one myself.

The amount of anti-glare is stupid. I always turn my brightness down on monitors anyway. If I spend £650 on a monitor, I dont want a piece of tracing paper glued to the screen.

There's loads of reports of this and quite a few reviews / guides on how to remove it.

Apart from this, it is a fantastic monitor. Maybe Dell should listen and make some without the anti glare.

The Apple I viewed today (it was the new thunderbolt one) Didnt have heavy antiglare. I looked at the white background and it didnt sparkle

...Conclusion

To sum up: I love the Dell U2711 Monitor, but I hate the image it displays. I won’t be buying it again unless Dell drastically reduce the aggressiveness of the Anti Glare coating and minimise the resultant image speckle.

Connections on the Apple screen are turning me off and build quality and a few known issues with Hazro are turning me off them. I am tempted by the Hazro HZ27WA though

Yes, only display port and dual-dvi support higher res than 1080p

Is mini display port what only what Apple use? Why dont they just use display port, dvi and hdmi like everyone else?

Is mini display port be capable of 2560x1440?

Why do you only use 1920x1200 on the Dell 27" and not 2560x1440 (I'm presuming its a U2711)

I went into the purple shirt shop in town today and asked how the Apple Cinema display connected to PC, at first she told me it was via USB. I then said, no it isnt and she figured out by tracing the lead that it was by a 'smaller connection' I presume she meant mini display port.

She said a converter for mini display port to dvi could be used. I asked how to change the brightness on a pc and got the reply "buy a mac"

Fantastic!

From what she told me thunderbolt is just for data transfer like usb3, and the new cinema displays are exactly the same and use mini displayport

Jesus, £70. Woudnt it need to be calibrated (brightness etc) with a Mac still? Or can you get some random 3rd party program for PC to edit apple cinema settings?
