Why would you want to get a non-retina over a retina?
Easier to upgrade + cheaper (not everybody needs the res bump).

Oh yeah, baby! I love me some "big" Phil Schiller. He's a nicer replacement for Steve Jobs than Paul O'Grady.
I've much prefer Firewire on my old iMac, transferring photos from memory card on a Firewire reader saves me about 90 mins per session.
That is a lot of time (and money) saved.
I now would prefer Thunderbolt over USB3 but the speed difference here is less drastic.

They're actually advertising on the main page:

Do Apple always announce events on their main page like this? If not, then yeah this could be really big!
Either way, I'm looking forward to it but my bank balance certainly isn't.
Easier to upgrade? How is the Retina harder to upgrade? Not being rude - Legit question - I don't know![]()

The RAM is soldered into place on the retina and there's no optical drive so you don't have space for a 2nd internal drive if you need it. Also iirc it uses PCIe flash as an SSD so increasing capacity is going to be pricey.

Still, it's a pretty minor minor connection compared to USB3, on Macs and rarely anything else. I much prefered eSATA before USB3, faster than both USB2 and Firewire but that was an even more niche connection (and only around for 2-3 years).
How many GB of cards do you use in a session? I use 16GB cards (x4 sometimes) and I remember them only taking 10-15 minutes max a card on USB2.![]()
When does it start 18:00?
