*****Apple Fall Event 22nd Oct*****

Oh yeah, baby! I love me some "big" Phil Schiller. He's a nicer replacement for Steve Jobs than Paul O'Grady.

I've much prefer Firewire on my old iMac, transferring photos from memory card on a Firewire reader saves me about 90 mins per session.

That is a lot of time (and money) saved.

I now would prefer Thunderbolt over USB3 but the speed difference here is less drastic.

Still, it's a pretty minor minor connection compared to USB3, on Macs and rarely anything else. I much prefered eSATA before USB3, faster than both USB2 and Firewire but that was an even more niche connection (and only around for 2-3 years).

How many GB of cards do you use in a session? I use 16GB cards (x4 sometimes) and I remember them only taking 10-15 minutes max a card on USB2.

Easier to upgrade + cheaper (not everybody needs the res bump).

Easier to upgrade? How is the Retina harder to upgrade? Not being rude - Legit question - I don't know :p

Phil Schiller is awesome and I've really started to like Craig Federighi :p

Do Apple always announce events on their main page like this? If not, then yeah this could be really big!

Either way, I'm looking forward to it but my bank balance certainly isn't.

Yeah I've never seen them advertise their keynote on the front page of Apple.com before :D

The RAM is soldered into place on the retina and there's no optical drive so you don't have space for a 2nd internal drive if you need it. Also iirc it uses PCIe flash as an SSD so increasing capacity is going to be pricey.

They have announced live streaming of events on the mainpage before.
I believe more often than not when they do, it tends to be a link below whatever the current main featured Ad is though.

Its also a bit of a ploy to make sure you are using Safari or an Apple device though.

What do you reckon the chance is of getting a new iPad before next friday? Do they normally ship the next day after the event?

AFAIK this is the first time!

Wallet is so ready for this evening :p

I could be very tempted by a retina iPad Mini - don't really notice the poor resolution on mine until it's next to my brother's iPad 4, but it's pretty poor in bright light as well. Would also be very tempted by a significantly slimmed down full-size iPad.

(And obviously I want a new MBP but there's no chance I can afford that atm!)

I have 12 x 8G cards, imagine just 10 cards.

FireWire is about 3-4 min per card.
Usb2 was like 15 min.

So that's like 30-40 min vs 2 to 2.5 hours.
