*****Apple Fall Event 22nd Oct*****

I hope it's midnight as it'll give me something to do at work lol.

Btw, at the annual earnings call the other night, Tim Cook stated in 2014 they'll be moving into new product catergories they haven't before - about time! It's been fun seeing their lineup evolve, but the iPod is dying a slow death, desktops are beginning to slow down and the iPhone and iPad are part of the current furniture, so hopefully they'll be some nice surprises next year.

I expect an Apple TV 'proper' within the next few years, as well as some big changes to the current Apple TV Box, along with a watch of some description.
Moving forward I could see the iPod line being discontinued in regards to 'high end' devices (keeping a budget offering) and a proper low-cost iPhone introduced replacing the top end iPods as well.

-edit-
Looking at iPad Air Benchmarks - crazy numbers. In 19 months performance on the iPad has increased nearly 600% - mobile development of this generation is truly mirroring PC development in the 90's/00's

The thing that makes me really dubious about the apple TV and some of its future services etc... is that many new features on release are US only, which really cheeses me off sometimes :(

Indeed :(
Would love a TV Set that had access to all the services in UK so I could finally ditch the sky set-top box but its more likely to only include US Services :(

I dunno why Apple would ever want to get into the TV business. Too many big players, prices always going lower and lower, and the technology always changing. Apple would be permanently playing catch up, or trying to lead an industry they probably cant make a dent in. Plus the cost of storing huge boxes, displaying them, shipping them etc etc.

I can think of a bunch of things I'd rather invest in, before getting into that. The current apple TV is probably more profitable than trying to do the same to TV's that they have done with computers and phones.

Still 1GB RAM on the new iPad even when:

you’re looking at a 20 - 30% increase in memory footprint when dealing with an all 64-bit environment

Although things seem to have improved with iOS 7.0.3, the 64-bit builds of the OS still seem to run into stability issues more frequently than their 32-bit counterparts. I still see low memory errors associated with any crashes.

If Apple had put in 2GB - I'd be a lot more forthcoming in getting my first iPad, as the Air's weight loss is very appealing.

Well surely the same problems should exist on the 5s? Only 1 crash on the 5s (Facebook app) since launch doesnt seem out of the ordinary.

So you think 1GB RAM is ok in the new iPad?

The iPad 3/4 was already RAM starved and dropped apps out of memory with a few tasks running. I like to have a few internet tabs open and maybe music playing.

The GPU here will take more RAM than the iP5 due to screen res. Plus the extra 64bit overheads. I bet if you loaded up a 3D game, all the web tabs would be dropped in an instant with 1GB RAM.

Apple should have put in 2GB this year.

Im just pointing out that its not been an issue (64bit os) on the 5s thus far :p
I dont understand your frustration at web tabs? it takes like 5 seconds for them to load back up anyway.

The issue is (I've found) that it's not just taking 5secs to reload a tab, but for example;
If I need to keep 2 tabs open, one to post a thread reply and keep the other tab open for reference, the ipad will 100% of the time have nowhere near enough memory to keep this tab "in memory" to save reloading.. and when I do go to the other tab and go back, my partially typed reply is lost also!

I agree.

Losing stuff or reloading due to lack of RAM goes against the user experience that Apple so love to advertise.

Was the 5S/5C midnight? (I didn't order one so I don't know)

I believe I've said that its midnight a few times now.
Even if it isn't, its worth checking at that time, otherwise you have missed the boat if you wait until the next day.

I agree, I don't really see what is in it for Apple to go after that market.

The major manufacturers all have smart TVs now which are web enabled and do browsing, on-demand services and online videos. Then you have the likes of Microsoft who have voice and motion control with the current Xbox, and more with the next one.

I don't see how Apple can do anything truly innovative that nobody is already doing to make you want to buy a TV from them.

So the general consensus here is that the iPad air is not worth it due to having 1gb ram?

It doesn't have the bloated OS of lesser tablets so its not a massive issue - my iPad 3 can definitely handle more than 2 web pages so poster above must have iPad 2?

i noticed on my ipad 3, in safari when i had a few tabs open and when I'd flick to each tab, the web page would reload again, was a nightmare when trying to copy paste from one tab to the other (forums), is this because of the lack of RAM?
