Apple ID on multiple devices question

Currently we have two ipads and two iphones in our household. As these were mine and drip fed down to my wife they all have my apple id on them. This works ok because all the app are available to all the devices which we have bought.

Now I'm thinking of setting my wife up with her own apple id on her devices, so she can back up her own game saves etc to icloud. Will this stop her using apps bought using my apple id and in future sharing apps even though we both back up and restore to the same pc?

Or will it just be easier to leave her using the same id?

No mate, you can set different ids for the App Store, iCloud, Face Time, etc.

Just go into the iCloud tab, remove your id, add in hers and do the same for Face Time, iMessage (& in Photos if she wants to keep her pics separate).

So long as she's logged in to your id on the Store tab you'll be fine.

Ah thanks for that, might just be easier to carry on using my id then and share apps on all devices. Or are you saying she just relogs in using my id and then we can still share apps?

If you log into the Store with your id on all of the devices you'll be able to buy and share apps on all of them.

The iCloud bit is separate, so she can log in with her own id and have email, contacts, calendars and iCloud backups (including app data and game saves) all separate from yours :)

You can have different ids set on each of the different sections, like so:

Settings > iCloud = set with her id
Settings > Messages > Send and Receive = her id
Settings > FaceTime = her id
Settings > iTunes & App Stores = your id

You should be sorted after that :)

Cheers for that Doug, didn't know you could do that. Had this problem on my iPad when all my messages keep appearing on my phone and iPad so wanted them to be done to separate addresses.

Cheers Doug, made that very clear for this numpty :)
How can you find out if a game actually backs up save to the cloud?
Basically I want to do a complete fresh install on her ipad but she's worried she will lose her tap the frog 2 progress :D

Don't think there's a way to get her progress back if you clean install without using your account again, which kind of defeats the point. If you just change the iCloud account it'll keep her progress.

Settings > iCloud > (scroll down) Storage & Backup >Manage Storage > *whatever the phone's name is* > Show all apps.

That'll show you how much data each app is backing up (if any).

Ok right, so will this work do you think....

Give her a cloud account of her own. Back up her stuff on her ipad.
Clean install and still use my account for her apps off itunes.
Recover the game data using her icloud account?

Looking on mine, tap the frog 2 is using 34kb presumably save data. I might try that then, even if it wipes her scores I can laugh because her scores are higher than mine and blame you ;)

"It's not my fault" :D
