Apple Ipod HiFi

looks interesting, and knowing apple thus far, wouldn't suprise me if it's well engineered, but it's still 250 quid,

tempting though, as I am looking to ditch my current hifi unit, and want a speaker setup that can charge the Ipod, and be reasonably subtle in the room,

Hmm. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Reckon it's worth it? I've got a decent hifi setup already and a dock is only £30. Only big plus on the Apple HiFi seems to be the remote.
The Universal Dock can work with a remote too, even if you have to buy it separately. Saving you roughly £200... Especially if you already have a decent Hi-fi setup!

I mean, seriously. What were they thinking? Leather case with no window and no through-control for £70? Or 80's retro-looking speakers with absolutely no functionality except having an iPod dock and a remote, for £250?

I myself have an iPod Video so I'm not necessarily anti-Apple, but they really seem to have lost the plot with the announcement this time. The only remotely interesting thing is the new Mini, and that was already expected all around anyway.

I'm very reluctant to pay anything over £75 for an ipod dock with speakers to be honest. The more I think the about it, the less it seems worth it. I don't keep any losless music on it and I don't think it's worth laying down loads of a good speaker system when you're listening to 128kbs AAC's. I think I'm going to stick with the PC connected to decent hi-fi for the study/lounge and maybe get a cheapy speaker setup for the ipod in the bedroom.

I can't imagine the sound being that great what with the speakers being less than a foot apart either :/
