Am I right in thinking that with the new mini dvi converters this can now be used as a standard PC screen?

Love the look of them over Apples standard Cinema displays and could be very tempted if this is the case...

I thought you needed DisplayPort or Mini DisplayPort to run one of these.

The adapters are one way only as far as I know, i.e getting Mini DisplayPort out of a MacBook and turning it into DVI or VGA - not the other way round.

But the opening post mentions mini-DVI?

Which I assume the op thinks that mini-DVI to DisplayPort will work, when I don't think it will. Maybe I'm in the wrong and have it totally confused.

Mini Display -> HDMI -> DVI?

Ahhh, I dunno.. I retract my statement :(

I asked an online Apple person on your behalf earlier and they said that no such cable exists.

The only Apple compatible computers for the new LED displays are ones with DisplayPort or Mini DisplayPort out - so the new MacBook, MacBook Pro and MacBook Air - along with the recently updated iMacs, Mac Pro, Mac Mini and 4870 card coming for the Mac Pro. Emphasizing the new products.

Obviously a PC with Display Port or Mini Display Port should work but you can't come from VGA or DVI out on a computer and into the DisplayPort on the LED display.

That's my understanding of it, I would happily be proved wrong because I've been after two of the LED displays for my Mac Pro but I only have two DVI's out on my 8800GTS.

The Apple person is correct.

Until PC graphic cards start incorporating mini/display ports as standard it's not possible at present to connect the new Apple monitors to a PC.

I don't have much hope for an adaptor either.

Shame as I like the new cinema displays.

Having read a little more about the adapter cables on Apples website it looks like the consensus is right and no such adapter exists that allows you to plug an Apple LCD Display to a standard VGA/DVI port

Wont be getting one after all then :(

The only thing that will be happy about that is your wallet. :(

My fault, I knew there was a Mini Display Port -> DVI connector, although my brain didn't register it was one-way :o

Apologies.

It's alright, even the pros get it wrong sometimes. ;)

To be fair, if it's technologically possible they should have a cable to do this, simple as.

OMG!

I saw one of these in the flesh today with a load of new Macs at my local purple shirt store. My god! I want one!

It looked so amazing! I have been at Uni all day looking at the price and whether i can justify spending the £525 for one!

The only thing that is holding me back is the lack of connectivity! I would love to be able to plug an Xbox up to it if i wanted to do some LAN matches with some mates. Is there a way yet to be able to plug it into normal computer aswell?
