I have been given an Apple Macbook A1181 to fix which is my first mac to try and fix as I am used to fixing laptops all the time.

Anyhow as I know nothing about Macs I need help on a problem.

When you turn the macbook on, you hear a fan going and a quick flicker on the screen but it then goes blank. About 5secs later, the fan stops, and a white light appear at the bottom right hand corner of the macbook. The light stays on for several seconds and it goes out and you also hear as if the macboot just powers off.

Then some times it would be going and the white light is flashes at various intervals. And finally, it might never switch on when you press the button, as if the laptop was dead.

I look out the memory and put it back in, even the hard disk but still no joy. Not sure what to do with this thing so if anyone can offer some help, I would be grateful.

Silly suggestion but are you sure the screen is not dead / unplugged.

What I mean is, there is a tiny ribbon cable inside the hinge which may have come undone.
FYI: The white light is a power indicator. On - static, pulsing - sleep.

Try this link for guides on popular replacement procedures.

Cheers for the link mate. I shall have a look at those.

The fact that it seems to power off after a few seconds ruled out the screen unless thats what it does when the screen is dead.
