I have just got a mac book pro from someone with no screen at all just the base. Now it sounds like its doing what it should - its lights are coming on and the battery light is also coming on. It also has just had a new hard drive fitted with no O/S i have managed to turn it on fine but no display. Now am using a Mini display port cable to a display port cable to a disport on my dell monitor.

Its on the correct channel (output) but i don't know how i get this apple to show on the monitor.

Is it a key at all to get it on or does it just not work at all like this?

Hope you understand what i mean!

Thanks
Dave

I hope this isn't one of them eBay spares or repairs only listings where they say it has one problem and u fix that to find a million others

yeah hear all the sounds and when i put my os x disc in i can hear it spinning and loading up as you do. and the lights are on as normal and no ebay purchase. A mate who broken the screen and lid.

I hear all the sounds and makes the right sounds i just need to get it on an external display. I am bidding on a screen on lid but i want to use it on my dell 30" for now but cant seem to find out how to get it to display.

Don't some of the newer Macbook's have move than just the screen in the lid section, like the wireless antenna and bluetooth or am I just making that up?

They have the wireless. I Dont really need the wireless to get it up and running. I think i have found that you have to have a O/S to do this. So i have a imac i will see if i can use the 2.5" drive from my macbook to install o/sx from my imac to the 2.5" drive then plug it in.

never know :)

You may need to find out how you can make it think the lid is closed so it defaults to the external monitor. Magnet I believe?

Another possibility is an image of OS X all ready installed that you can restore to a drive (they're out there), do that on another Mac and maybe once it loads the OS the secondary screen will be of use, maybe not.

I would rest the pram on the laptop
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.

this will reset the volume level on the mac and you should hear the start up chime.. I know on my mbp, the second screen don't kick in till the os is loaded, so it can be the os is not working correct.

If you have another mac, try booting in target disk mode and booting off the hdd from the working mac so you can see how far its actually getting.

Hope this helps
