About this update

The SMC Update improves the MacBook’s internal monitoring system and addresses issues with unexpected shutdowns. This update is recommended for all MacBook systems, including those that received warranty repair.

I've not installed it yet, will do in the morning though. Haven't heard any bad reports as of yet...

BeatMaster :D

Hmm... installing now...

Edit - Update:

My system just restarted from the install.
Fricking hell, I read the Read me but boy was I in for a shock. My MacBook transformed into a Vacuum Cleaner for 20secs. Fans on FULL and everything's buzzing and sucking.

Reloaded back and all is a norm.

Nothing special :D

When you stat to futz with the firmware or single-user mode, most macs default to a state where all cooling fans are on at 100%. Think of it as a failsafe. When the operation is done, they usually return to proper firmware control.

Ever heard a dual G5 powermac on full blast? It sounds like a leaf blower but louder. I fold 24/7 and I've never made even one fan go to 100%, let alone all 9 (or is it 12?).

Lol... I can imagine 5 or 12 MB blowing full at the same time. Go PowerMac.

BTW, it didn't run hot during the firmwire update.
Usually, the MB runs warm, many complained it to be hot but it's the same with all Core Duo systems, warm but not burning hot. Nice for the winter to come :)

People are claiming that this is not a proper fix for the Macbooks.

I have not really followed the shut down issues but from what Ive been reading this morning the problem is caused by the heatsink expanding when it gets hot ? and then that touches a sensor or sommet and shorts out? People are also saying that wires have been found to be melted onto the side of the heat sink?

Well, the claims are that this SMC F/W just ignores the contact between the heatsink and the sensor. Or sommet like that. So the problem is still there, its just being ignored.

could have course be all bull that i've read - but you never know.

Not very well :p

This is very good for me since I was just starting to experience RSS so i'm hoping that it's fixed it :D

Well, when it says the fan will spin up and then return back to normal, I wasn't expecting a vacuum cleaner like type of sucking/pushing speed/sound. :D

I've not got any issue with the MB but since it's a firmware update, might as well.
