Apple makes Mac run Windows XP

all done!

I did not have any problems at all.

The only small issue I have are that the 2 finger scrolling does not work on the touch pad

tis a fairly painless process. less painfull than a linux/windows dual boot, in fact less painless than a plain install of xp on my old laptop when it came to driver install.

the only issue i have is that windowsxp seems to have become the default boot option, so i have to remember to hit the alt/option key on bootup everytime, which i can see is going to become rather annoying.

/edit

until i read the manual ;)

The Boot Manager always defaults to the last boot option, so it's not that bad. It would have been nice for there to have been an option to display boot manager by default though.

2.16GHz?

MacBook Pro tipped up at 11.10am this morning. So I know how I'm going to be spending my afternoon.

Bought the 2.16Ghz Version with a 7200rpm HDD for £1625 all in  (was £2059 @ the Apple Store) :D :D Just waiting for the extra gig of memory to tip up from that well know direct memory seller and I'm away.

Happy Days!!

Thinking of getting one - top spec is 2GHz though as far as I can see......

What the frick? How'd you pull that one off? Even with using my medical school discount I can't get near that amount!!

Any Macbook Pro owners experiencing these whinning and heat issues which I keep reading lots about on various Apple forums?

I need a laptop and the Macbook Pro is perfect especially now as it can run XP also (I need XP for some work apps unfortunately), but these issues keep putting me off.

I've got an 8611 MBP. Heat was a bit of a problem when I was first using it. I think it's better since the Mac OSX 10.4.6 and firmware updates. It's a little bit difficult to tell becuase I was in Florida when I bought it and the ambient temperature of 28C is a bit different to the cold and wet at home! The bottom gets a bit warm after extended use, but it's not much worse than the IBM T42 1.5Ghz that I use at work.

There's a high frequency noise from somewhere around the left speaker. This only occurs on battery power when the CPUs are idling. Give it something to do or open up an app that enables the iSight camera and the noise disappears.

I'm not too fussed. Both these minor problems will likely be fixed by a firmware or OS upgrade. At the moment the MacBook Pro is the best all round laptop I've used and the looks are to die for compared to similar PCs. Then again I like the styling and build of IBM ThinkPads so what do I know ;)

found someone selling one over at that well known auction site. said email him for a bu it now price so i mailed him, he said he was holding back and he'd let it go for £1625 so i snapped his hand off. they specifically deal with over supply and bankrupt stock.

i have noticed it does get warm underneath, probably a tad hotter than the acer ferrari, but then from what i've read the case is supposed to be part heatsink. a mate has a g4 1.67ghz powerbook and says his gets warm also. thing is its so much quieter than the acer.

UPDATE: Don't know if heat was the issue but this thing just died right in front of my eyes :( One minute it was on the next *poof* :(

A very expensive paper weight. Pain in the backside it going on a long holiday weekend as I was just about a 3rd of the way into doing my end of year books. Not sure if this is a one off but I'd be interested to hear if there are others or if I'm just one unlucky soab.
