wohoo! get the party hats out! :) :D

still an insignificant market share though :(

Don't really want it getting much bigger than 10% anyway tbh, then all the virus writers get more interested and our safety and smugness is removed ;)

As long as apple stick around im happy! lol

very true mate, didn't think about that

keep on trucking Apple!

I really believe Mac OS X is going to over-populate any Microsoft operating system in the future. You've already got companies banning upgrades to Vista and organisations switching their entire suite's to Macs.

I'm hoping Apple will somehow manage to contain their security and virus-free environment though, Macs are already pretty popular and they've managed so far, so surely another 4.62% isn't going to hit us hard.

I think every mac users should be welcoming this. The more market share we get, the more applications that will start getting ported.

In terms of higher education I really think Apple are positioning themselves well, I know at least 4 of my friends have switched to Mac due to the higher education discount, something which none of them had considered.

I think Apple should start considering launching a business range, targetting the current thinkpad users, and well designed, powerful systems running a native version of MS Office. With IBM changing their personal computer range to Lenovo, and really Dell & HP Compaq being the strongest competition, I really think Apple have a real chance of a 15-20% market share.

Perhaps a complete change, launch them not as Macintosh's but as something else. I could imagine a beefed up version of the Mini Mac, with a reasonably priced TFT would be a great hit for companies, minimal desk space.

I believe:
1) Apple are easily the best designed machines on the market
2) OS X is far better than Vista

I think soon there's going to be an Ipod style period where buying Macbooks / Mac's is going to absolutely rocket..... I might well think of investing in a few shares myself!

Apple are doing very well. The Intel move has worked for them and opened a whole new audience who can now run other operating systems with OS X.

Let's hope that apple don't get blasé and take there finger off the button.

With popularity there will be issues in which Apple will have to face.

I think they're already getting blase. The company's attention seems to be firmly on things other than the computers these days.

I think ic1male is talking about how Macworld 2007 only had around 2mins of Mac talk (out of the 2hrs of the entire show), the rest was about the Apple TV and iPhone. As well as this, Apple are no longer 'Apple Computer', there 'Apple Inc.' which they recently officially changed at Macworld 2007.

In my opinion Apple are just focusing on the release of Leopard at the moment. We haven't seen as much from them in the past 6 months because they've been too busy developing new technologies to include in the new OS. Its the same for hardware, 2006 was the year for all the hardware updates with the move to Intel. After Leopard is out with all its new (top secret) features out in the open Apple will start churning out all new hardware and software updates to go with it.

Don't forget though, Steve did say in January "2007 is gonna be a great year for the mac, over the course of the next several months we're going to roll out some awesome stuff for the mac", so ... we'll just have to wait and see :)

Is it really that wrong though? Apple didn't really make a huge success of their computer business (compared to the PC/Windows anyway) and I think focusing on things like multimedia devices would be a natural extra to try and persuade switching PC users to the Mac.

I think that Apple have the computer side of their business sorted and just need to encourage more people to switch from the Wintel PC. I think all they really need to do now is to try and encourage more games companies to develop for the Mac.

Apple are big enough to be working on many products.

I was referring to the issues that are associated with popularity. Things like security, bug fixes and the like. Firefox is a great example of a nice product that has been picked on by popularity.
