Fantastic news for Scotland OcUK users - Apple are opening a retail store in Buchanan St!
Macworld News said:Eagle-eyed Scots have confirmed Apple plans to open an Apple retall store in Glasgow, Scotland next year.
Local planning regulations forced Apple to file a consent form (06/03324/DC) for the new store on 11 October. You can read a PDF containing a little information about the filing online on the Glasgow council website.
The store will be situated in a listed building on the city's prosperous Buchanan Street - one of the leading UK shopping centres. The location is currently occupied by classy home-furnishing outfit The Pier.
Images of the building are available here.
The application describes the removal of the existing mezzanine floor and its replacement with a new one. A new lift and stone floor will be installed, and the rear wall will be in stainless steel panels, as will the ceiling. A glass spiral staircase will be installed, to the left of the main entrance. This will connect the mezzanine to the ground floor. A Genius/iPod bar will be in place on the upper level, while the basement will be a storage area.
Alterations will cost an estimated £1,168,000, according to the filing. Work begins in February and should be completed by July 2007.
The move to open a store emerges as Glasgow's Mac users begin working to create an all-new Mac user group, Glas-MUG. Still in the early stages of setup, Mac users in Glasgow should visit the group's website to find out more.
