Apple Ready to Counter Windows 7 Launch with New "Get a Mac" Commercials

Waste of time and money IMO
They could have spent the money actually highlighting the good points of OSX and not waste time by comparing it to Windows.

And look for it to poke fun at Microsoft for making XP owners go through an arduous process to upgrade to Windows 7 -- one that includes backing up all their files to an external drive, reformatting their PC.
I never knew this was only a problem which affected Windows 7?
The majority of users don't upgrade their O/S, they upgrade the computer which comes with Windows pre-installed. Those who do upgrade the O/S generally have the no-how to backup all their documents and media files etc. Besides how hard is the Windows 7 installation? It's a straight forward process.

This is a non-issue, 9/10 times you can download the latest version of your software from the publishers website.

"Any user that reads all those steps is probably going to freak out. If you have to go through all that, why not just buy a Mac?"
This is why:
Cost of Windows 7 = £50-100 (Pre-order)
Cost of cheapest Mac (Mini): £499
Hmmmm "I can't install this O/S, so I'm going to go buy a £500 Mac instead and leave my copy of Windows 7 to rot. Oh wait, I still have to backup all my documents and transfer them!"

Lol! The only people who will switch are those that are more worried about style than their wallets! Yet another reason to loath Apple. I wonder if there's an app for that yet...

Not to mention then having to re-purchase the applications you would only have had to reinstall just to run them on a mac!

Phil Schiller, Apple's senior vice president for Worldwide Product Marketing believes that Microsoft's customers will forsake the company when Windows 7 hits. He cites what he considers an arduous installation process when upgrading from XP. He states, "Any user that reads all those steps is probably going to freak out. If you have to go through all that, why not just buy a Mac?"
Does he think that switching to a Mac wouldn't require you to reload all of your applications and data, with the added hassle of configuring everything to work on Mac?

Does he think that people are likely to pay £500+ for a Mac to get around having to install a £45 operating system? If people didn't want to install 7 themselves, why wouldn't they just buy a cheap computer with 7 preinstalled, which would be about half the price of the Mac?

I like Apple products a lot. One of the main things that keeps me from purchasing a Macbook is the sickening aura of smug superiority that Apple encourages. Is it any wonder that lots of Mac users are equally smug, when it comes from the top?

Bottom line is that MS has momentum with 7 - it's a good product and MS have learned a lot from the Vista situation about how to promote an OS. It's going to sell millions of copies and Apple are scared that their criticisms of Windows won't be accepted by the public any longer.
