Just dropped my iPhone back at the carphone warehouse to be looked at. They said it could take up to 28 working days. I was wondering if anyone has sent an iPhone back to apple lately? If so how long did it take? Are they generally quite quick when it comes to things like this?

Regards

I have taken my iphone back to carphone warehouse for repair and they told me it would take up to 14 days.

I'd imagine 28 days is just a very conservative figure to cover their backsides in case the repair takes longer than it should.

This is reassuring :)

I'm heading back home on the 4th of April for 2 weeks. Hopefully it'll be back by then, fixed or not!

Can I ask what the issue was with yours? And what apple did to resolve it? Also how long did it actually take, assuming you've had it back.

Mines been swimming you see, but that was 2 months ago, and now has an intermitent harddrive issue i believe.

Hmm, lucky that it lasted so long! Isn't the iPhone flash storage based? Or is that what you meant?

I would imagine that the phone should be fixed by the time you get back.

Mine had strange silvery bits behind the glass of the screen around the edges of the phone as well as an abnormal amount of dust behind the LCD portion of the screen, something which really shouldn't happen as I always thought the screens were very well sealed to prevent this.

Still awaiting the return of mine back to Carphone warehouse, I took it in last Wednesday so not expecting it back until the end of the month.

Well initially the earspeaker stopped working, but I dried it out over night and it was fine, only the top half was sumberged for a few seconds. The hold button could be a little dodgey sometimes. Screen was fine etc etc. The water damage sensor, suprisingly, only about a third of it has gone slightly pink, so maybe that could be put down to moisture from spit when blowing in the jack etc etc. But I havent been able to see inside the actual phone so...

If you could let me know how long the whole process has taken when you recieve yours back i'd be grateful :)

10 minute appointment, can generally be done there and then, we quote 5-7 days max for repairs, most cases if the part isn't in stock it'll be 2 days and you'll have a new one.

Do you work for apple/carphone warehouse? or speaking from experience?

working at Apple and from experience, I had a broken iphone, booked an appointment, 10 minutes later had a new phone :)

Obviously you need to have warranty left on the phone :)

I see. I got the phone in december. Its an intermitent problem. Sometimes in the gym im faced with the restore mode screen. I let it switch off, turn it back on and its fine. Reboots itself sometimes. Though most of the time when I sync, I get the restore screen, and have to restore which it will then freeze or hang during. Or I get errors and its unable to sync untill I try for about the 20th time. So to look at you may think it works perfectly fine if its having a good day.

Do you know what would be done in the situation where a customer is claiming a genuine intermitent fault, but it can't be found/experienced?

I'll post back here with my experiences once I get the phone back off CPWH. :)

Wished I was near an Apple store, this would by far been a better method of getting the phone replaced. I think the closest store to me is like 60 miles away!

When I'm back home the stores in london are about an hour away, can get the met line right into london from where I live. Or drive to milton keynes. But yeah i'd rather march into a store and do it that way!

When mine died I took it into the local O2 store (nearest Apple store is Bristol which is a couple of hours drive from here) and it took 3 weeks. As well as that I got charged £50 as supposedly it had been dropped despite me never dropping it and it not having a mark on it when I handed it in (the woman in the O2 shop even pointed out how well looked after it was).
Had it back for 5 days and now the vibrate has died on it

Pondering whether it's worth a day trip to Bristol, I don't want to be without it for 3 weeks again. :(

Why were you charged £50? What was their reason for this?

I see. Well mine is 'technically' water damaged, even if it was fine for 2 months after. Even though it is what I believe to be a hard drive issue, which may have been caused by said damage, but I doubt it.

Expecting them to send it back untouched or opened, and will have to go through home insurance. Just hope i'm not charged for not having it for 2 weeks! It was in working order when I gave it them, even if it is temprimental! Hope it still works when I get it back!

Gibber, any news on yours?

Popped into the carphone warehouse on my way back from town. Its at apple being fixed apparently. Think the sales rep was just telling me what I wanted to hear though...

Switcheasy CapsuleNeo. Have a look here

Thanks. Looks to be good. I often use the iPod function on my phone so use the headphone jack a lot. Is there anyway to keep the headphone jack plug attatched to the case? or will i need to be creative?

CPWH- 'Apple Workshop Repair' completed and the consigment was dispatched today so should be back with me soon. Wether it actually been fixed or marked as 'water damaged' is another matter. Fingers crossed.:)

Got mine back today without a repair bill thank goodness. It was a brand new iPhone replacement in it's own pretty little 'repair box' straight from apple, so all in all pretty neat. Everything went pretty smoothly! I would say there's a high chance they will have done the same with yours too.

I will get one of them Neo Swicheasy cases too as this phone is immaculate and I want it to stay that way!

Lucky you! I asked the CPWH if there were for any reason to be any charges for them to contact me first before giving apple the go ahead, they said this was standard procedure.

Popped back into town to see if it had arrived on friday afternoon (small chance). It's no longer with apple, CPWH have it but its just not at the store yet :( I was looking through the log on screen 'engineer fixed' 'quality control' were among the things on screen, so looks to have been repaired. Unfortunatley they can't see details of the faults in store. Did your come with a fault report? although yours was mostly cosmetic wasn't it?

I'll be buying a Neo Swicheasy case too. Does it come with a protective film for the screen? Any images I find of it seem to be very confusing as to how it actually attaches!

Recieved mine back yesterday, un-repaired as I expected. The on screen log showed 'BER' - beyond economic repair', and water ingress so void waranty etc etc. I needed proof of purchase from cpwh to show my insurance company so I could buy a replacement, and they were very unhelpful and all they seemed bothered was in selling me the replacement. I eventually got the proof of purchase and then went to the o2 store round the courner (was being refurbed at the time I brought the phone) to fax the documents to my insurance company.

Should have a confirmation that the claim is approved so that I can go to o2 and buy the replacement on pay&go and use my existing contract sim.

I spent last night trying to restore, but it kept hanging. I left it hanging for 8 hours and still nothing. I had tried using ctrl + shift to select a different firmware before i sent it off, tried it this again and this time instead of a dialogue box 'restore and update' I just got 'restore' no option to select a file, so I clicked this and its restored and working, syncing as we speak.

Haven't a clue if it will continue to be temprimental. I opened it up and theres no sign of significant liquid ingress, no corrosion etc, everything looks fine! probaly explain why it functions 99% of the time.

Looks like I'll have two iPhones :p
