Apple Stores and Repairs?

I have a just over a year old Macbook with cracked plastic due to the overly strong magnets on the clasp mechanism. If I walk into my local Apple Store with a receipt and proof of applecare, will they repair it for me rather than shipping it back to apple where I purchased it from?

They will repair it on the spot if they have the part in stock, if not they will have to order it in.

What happens when the macs out of date, and don't perhaps have the receipt ? whats the going rate for repairs ?

I think that particular repair (In the OP) gets done even if it is out of warranty as it is a known defect on MacBooks.

Really depends on the part, but they aren't cheap. I got a new battery for my MacBook Pro today (under warranty thankfully) and the invoice says £100 :/

Surely they make 3rd party, cheaper and probably longer lasting batteries ? :S

No need for the receipt. It's all done by the serial number of the machine, from which they have a good idea of the time of purchase.
