Apple to Launch OSX App store..

Depends how much they charge for software. The app store on iPhone does so well because a lot of stuff is 59p. You think "Ooooh its cheap" then realise you have bought a load of apps!

They've removed downloads now for this very reason, its just going to be a place to browse software all in one place which I think is good.

All you got was out of date, mainly demo or trail software on their downloads section, now developers have a high incentive to resubmit / maintain their applications because I will assume Apple will push this Mac Store to users of iPhones who haven't really used a Mac before.

I'm looking forward to seeing whats on offer!

Surprised there hasn't been more talk about this - I think this has the potential to revolutionise the Mac OS. The iOS store has been one of the great innovations in software in the last few years - a similar scheme could see Apple machines grabbing even more of a market share.

There's not been a lot of information about what will be available on the store when it launches, but the screenshots floating about indicates it will have a lot of full price stuff (iLife, Garageband etc) plus whatever 3rd party stuff gets put forward. Personally, I'm hoping for apps like what's available on iOS to come out, with more of a focus on utlility/productivity apps as opposed to Angry Birds and fart apps :)

i'm looking forward to it, mainly out of laziness as i fancied upgrading iLife over xmas having received an SLR, but couldn't be dealing with the shops in the sale rush, so a download option would've been a god send.

And hopefully given the software will be more expensive, it won't suffer from having too many apps as the iOS store where its often hard to work out whats good!

Although, saying that, I am intrigued as to how developers will approach pricing, whether the app store will push £30 software (things like 1password) makers into selling at £5 and going for very high volumes or whether they'll stick with current pricing.

I know on iOS i tend to buy apps upto about £5 without really thinking about it, whereas on OSX i think much more carefully before spending when its £30 etc.

Maybe he likes Angry Birds ;)

I wouldn't mind it either as a apparently prices are going to be in line with iOS App Store pricing and if true we'll see lot's of stuff. Imagine Real Racing 2 on Mac with a bigger screen and joypad for £5.99 or Playing Nova 2 with Keyboard and mouse. Apps automaticly updated.

Good times ahead :)

They are both average games, unlikely to be improved by using a keyboard and mouse.

Launches tomorrow?

Surprised at the lack of buzz on here. I think it might be telling of how comfortable people already are with their desktop applications.

Anyone know what time it Launches over here? I make it 5pm if it's a global launch

WeOwnTheSky- It's subjective, to me they are both excellent games in fact in imo there are many excellent games on the App store and providing the App pricing is around the same as iOS versions it's going to be great :)

Are you sure you can't see the benefits of using a keyboard and mouse to play NOVA 2 which is an FPS game ;)

I thought there would be more activity in this thread seeing as the launch is imminent.

What I'm most interested about is the rumour of Tweetie 2 for Mac (Twitter for Mac) being one of the first apps available.
