Apple to skip Arrandale??

Apple have already bought up a large amount of ATI's GPUs so I'd expect the next release of laptops to use ATI - they will not want to throw away the development after the nVidia "exit from market".
Then there's the performance - intel's integrated performance is still low in the public's mind. Remember the last laptops with Intel integrated performance?
Once intel has proved itself in the public mind then Apple may move to it. It's just too much of an unknown (apple is cutting edge used of technology but the basic guiding principle is that it's fast and reliable).

You should add that's all conjecture. Everything on this subject is.

But that said, it'll be almost impossible for apple to skip the i5/i7 processors entirely, it's more just a matter of whether they use the integrated graphics.

As I understand it, there isn't as yet an announced mobile i5 chip without integrated graphics so if apple wanted to use mobile i5 (and they basically have to) then either they use integrated graphics or they beg Intel for a special one (which Intel may or may not already be planning and may or may not then release more widely).

Basically, these rumors will almost certainly have no bearing at all on whether upgrades happen, just what the exact specification of the updates will be...
