Heeeelp !!!!
Just bought AppleTV2, all set up ok, im now trying to do the update to latest firmware but everytime it gets so far it pops up with the message " update was not successful.

Ive tried with wireless and ethanet cable too but with no joy.

Im using a netgear DGN2200 if that makes any difference

Anyone with apple tv had this issue ?

the box

im off to get a mico usb from chaplin now
bit annoyed really
keeps dropping connection once in a while too

daft question
but how do i get it to recognise in itunes ( on computer )
ive got it connected to computer now via micro usb
its not showing up for some reason

ahh
its going back, getting my money back
im not paying £100 for something that doesnt work, seems there are lots of issues with atv2.

ive now found out that in order to recognise in itunes you only have to have the mico usb line connected, not the power too.
also, ive found out that there appears to be a problem ( apples side ) with the update server, im not the only one having this problem.
ive got it recognised in itunes, it just wont update.
will leave it for today and see if anything happens this evening.

Why dont you jailbreak it and put xbmc or netflix on it instead of updating?

because the thing is a bag of **** and jb'ing isnt going to sort out the connection and streaming issues is it ?
looses connection about 4-5 times an hour, streaming is very very poor considering i have a solid 9mb+ line
I call apple care and they tell me it will be my router, router has been solid for 12 months with laptop, work laptop connecting to works servers, iphones and gamming rig
and from what ive read on the net, its a very common problem, streaming and connection loss
I mean, whats causing the connection drops and why is streaming so so bad ?

Hmmm. You must have a duff one or you have a dodgy network. Mine works fine, never needed to plug it in either.

Currently got mine connected via ethernet as my wifi is rubbish.

Calm down, like has been said, you may have a duff one. Mine is very stable, the only thing it struggles with is high bitrate bluray rips but I knew it would before I bought it and as I have it in the bedroom, I tend not to watch bluray rips there as I prefer them through my AV amp in the lounge. I admit I don't use wireless but use the wired ethernet port and it's perfect for me.

It's the router mate. I've used mine on 4 routers now. It's liked 3 but it didn't like the one at my Girlfriend's Mother's house and kept dropping connection.

A new router is about £20 for a wireless N 300mbps one. Not the nicest solution to your problem but at least it's a solution.

You could try changing the firmware on your router. I remember a while back certain firmwares on my Netgear router wouldn't let my PS3 connect with WPA2 security enabled. It had to be WEP or no security. A firmware downgrade fixed that.

When I first connected my ATV2 to my PC it didnt show up in iTunes, replaced the microUSB lead from Asda of all places and now iTunes see's the ATV2.

Took it back and got a refund
The apple guy said they are aware of a problem with updates
Will get another when I buy ip5, if problems are sorted by then

Odd, I've used mine with Apple Home Sharing, XBMC and Plex and all have been pretty much flawless.

They are wasted without being jailbroken IMO, unless of course you buy/rent all of your TV shows from iTunes. Converting and importing everything would not amuse.
