I've currently got a 1.5TB HDD plugged into my RT-N66U, I've set it up to allow iTunes and media server

On my WDTV I can connect to it no problem as well as every PC (well, anything thats not iTunes based)

On the Apple TV the only thing it shows is to connect to a computer through iTunes, nothing about iTunes server running on the routers HDD?

Atm I can open something on my iPad using asus aicloud app then airplay it on apple tv but for unsupported formats (e.g. avi apparently) I can't.

Any ideas how the itunes server works on the N66U? or how to get apple tv to view the media on the drive?

You can only view iTunes content on an unjailbroken ATV from a computer running iTunes via Home Sharing. NAS drives don't work.

It's the reason I've kept my ATV2 as I when jailbroken, I can install XBMC or run the Plex client to connect to my media server.

EDIT: I have the RT-N66U and I can't recommend the Tomato firmware enough. It's absolutely epic. This and my old WRT-54GL router running it have been the most stable devices I've ever owned.
