apple tv

so with these do you have to dowload the tv content or will it work with m xvids?

tricky one, it doesn't natively work with xvid, though it's been hacked to play them now.

the best rule is if it'll play on a video ipod it'll play on apple tv

that said, it's that or nothing, no tv or movies on the uk store yet, which is useless...

in an appropriate format it'd work...i have eyetv software on my mac with an export to ipod option which works fine...on windows I've no idea...somebody can doubtless help...

Releasing the Apple TV without the ability to add to the codecs (either by adding them via a Quicktime plugin or Apple officially adding) is like releasing the 1st iPod with support for AAC and only AAC :(

You can add the codecs. The problem is it will only play video from the iTunes library so you have to fool the library into adding XVids by 'wrapping' them in a quicktime movie format.

If they dropped the whole iTunes thing and let it play things in a similar manner to FrontRow then it might be worth getting, otherwise I don't see the point of it over here.
