Apple TV

I use one in conjunction with a mac mini/drobo pro as my iTunes server.

Handbraking DVD collection into iTunes and use ElgatoTV system with Turbo264HD to import recordings into iTunes.

I share out my iTunes library across LAN and use my iPod Touch with Apple Remote to control. Just bought the smaller disk version.

I just convert any files I want to h264 and import to iTunes.

Works great for me however a lot of other people prefer to hack and use alternative front ends etc. But it works fine for me.

Anyone got one as I'm looking one. Any good etc?

I've got one.

They're fantastic if:
  1. You want to listen to music in your living room
  2. You've got a large collection of H.264 video ripped and/or you're willing to pay iTunes' video prices.

If you want to do anything else, forget it.

Personally, I'm considering getting a second one for the bedroom.

I have one, and I think it's great. I have a Mac Mini that I use as a server so I've thrown all my media on it - along with all my DVDs etc. all ripped into the appropriate format.

It just works. My mini is on all the time anyways so I didn't bother with the bigger one and just got the 40Gb - if it's not local to the TV it'll stream anyway over wireless (802.11n here).

It's pretty much just an appliance really. I know you can hack them for other formats and the like but I've never massively felt the need to.

Music wise it's plugged into my A/V amp so it's good for that too. You just browse to what you want and kick it off.

Rentals work pretty well too, although you have to keep an eye on what you end up throwing at the iTunes Store
