Apple Watch account locked

I have a Series 7 watch that my mother bought me as a Christmas gift, Christmas before last. At the time I paired it to my work phone an old iPhone SE using my personal apple ID but after 4/5months our company started rolling out forced security on which forced us to use our work emails as account settings. By that point I had stopped using the watch as the novelty had worn off. Fast forward to now and I was going to sell the watch as it's just sat gathering dust but when I've gone to reset and test it was properly wiped it comes up as account locked.

I can login to both my personal and work Apple ID's and neither show the watch as being paired to it and when I try and re-pair it to my new work phone (again another old iphone 7 this time). On the locked message it the account it shows locked as appears to be one of those accounts. I know before I factory reset the watch, the watch said it was using my work account. Because my work account when you login to the Apple ID goes through a Microsoft A/D authentication is the watch tied to my work account in a way I can longer access it? Would Apple be able to verify which account the watch is locked to?

Hope that makes sense!

Many thanks,
Ben

Cheers for the replies. I spoke with our IT team and they had contacted Apple and had all ID's with our domain name cancelled so it was brought under their control. I've had to raise a support request with Apple directly as now my work account doesn't show any history of my old work iPhone or the watch against it. I'm not hopeful though, as my mum got the watch from Curry's so the order confirmation and PO doesn't have the IMEI or serial on it anywhere.

To close this off, they requested I send proof of purchase, I sent them the proof of purchase but the denied my request. No reason or anything is provided, a bit of a joke really but we go on...

Send a complaint to Apple. If you know 100% the proof is real proof you own the device.

If the complaint then doesn’t work, go to the retail ombudsmen UK.

That should get an answer from them either unlock it or tell you why.

Depends how far you want to push it.

Cheers, I'll have a think about it! I think their issue is that none of what I provided has any kind of serial/identification number. I don't think I've ever ordered anything online that has provided those kind of details though. I'll check with my mum and see if she has anything else. But I have the order confirmation email and the attached PO they send through.

Even though it's been removed from your account you'd assume Apple have historic records to say it was. That you'd think would back up your argument. If they're worried you've sold it on surely the fact it's not been registered on another account, along with a dated photo of it in your possession, should help.
