Hey guys,

noticed a issue on my watch..it seems to be a known issue, so want to see if I should be heading to apple tomorrow morning to see about it.

basically, when the screen is woken, it sometimes is dim, like the brightness is right down before increasing..and sometimes when woken, it’s at a more prominent brightness from the start?

if someone could help, asap, so I can arrange an apple visit sharpish.

thank you!

Popped in today, booked a Genius Bar appointment for 10.35, so will see what's happening, if it passes diagnostics or not.

Apart from this thing happening, its a cracking little watch, battery life better than on my Series 7 (although I did have "always on" on), I mean, so far about 9 hours (albeit minimal use atm) 79% battery!

will report back what the situation is on this once its been checked out tomorrow!

Took to the apple store this morning, all passed testing, I said I will keep an eye on it .. been ok so far anyway.

also got confirmation that it’s all legit and have around 280 days roughly warranty left!

I think its fair to assume that when idle, the watch will dim its display. When it wakes, there will be a heap of things that the watch has to go through to get up and running, checking net works, notifications, app background tasks, display brightness etc etc … they all fight for the cpu’s time via interrupts on wake, and sometimes maybe the display brightness interrupt will take a Back step to others with a higher priority … if dealing with that higher priority takes a bit of time, then maybe that’ll delay the time it takes to getting round to brightening the display ?

yeah, that is a possibility mate, I mean it’s been checked out and works fine. It’s probably along the lines of something you said, but works great and still has a lot of warranty left, so it’s reassuring if circumstances change for the worst.

If I’m indoors and I twist my wrist to see ny watch, I can see the display brightening up every single time.

If I’m outdoors, I don’t really notice it. When the watch is in the ‘sleep’ mode, the display is dimmed but because it has an ambient brightness sensor, perhaps it doesn’t dim so much when the ambient light level is higher.

I think what you’re describing is normal behaviour.

its official guys! im dumb as hell!

I got my functioning of the dimming backwards!

How? Well, first off its deigned to dim in a less light area and go brighter, the brighter the room / surroundings are..

I Was thinking the reverse! I thought that it would get brighter in the less lit room, and dimmer in the more lit room!

I have confirmed this, by going into the less lit room, and the watch face comes alive, and dim, then I out my iPhone torch over the watch, and...gets brighter..

So all in all, im stupid! Got my lighting effects back-to-front!

I suppose the one good thing apart from my waste to Apple, so both our times, are, I confirmed, that the watch is 100% legit, with about 9 months official Apple Warranty left!

Good times! :)
